Home improvements-which would you prefer?
We have a limited amt of $$ right now to do improvements but we really need some things done.
I have two stoops and a patio to replace. I've been on the fence about how to do it since it's so much money.
I really need new carpert and paint and new closet doors in my bedroom. The master bath needs a new vanity, tub reglaze and paint.
None of this stuff is off the charts expensive by themselves but it adds up.
So while I would paint the bathroom and bedroom, I would also paint the laundry room and the hallway. You know how it goes, then I would want to pain the stairway..etc.
If you had enough to do one of these projects, which would you do?
Even though I could use the patio and stoops done since it's summer I'm thinking that my bedroom just looks so crappy and it really needs attention too.
Torn. We really need those bricks done, it's in bad repair but inside is where we spend the most time.
I wish I had double the amt to spend.

If the steps are a safety issue thats what I would address first. You can always paint your bedroom yourself to freshen it up.

Re: Home improvements-which would you prefer?
I'm painting impaired. We tried, there was almost a divorce. We will pay the pros.
I was thinking of doing the front stoop because it is a safety issue.
Then maybe next month or the month after do the bedroom and then make plans for the next two months and upgrade the bath.
Painters like to come in and do more than one room though so I may have to combine the painting.

Def. the steps. I would save the painting for the Fall when the weather is cooler. Plus you want to enjoy the outside soon.

Re: Home improvements-which would you prefer?
I agree about the front steps, but the patio really needs to be done too and it's at least $6K!
The steps are about $2K. With that I can still do the painting and carpeting in the fall.
I would love to do that patio. I didn't even take out my patio set this year because it didn't pay with how bad it is.
I will play the lottery today!
The carpeting in my bedroom is white (or used to be)..what was I thinking?
So I want to put a darker neutral in there and fix the closet doors. Then the bathroom for a mini update.
Houses are money pits.

Re: Home improvements-which would you prefer?
Now: Steps; rent a steam cleaner/rug shampooer from the grocery store for $20 and clean your bedroom carpet just so it doesn't bother you as much.
Fall/Winter: Replace doors and trim, then painting, prioritize it, get the most important done first; if replacing carpet, replace after you paint, so you can use the as the old as the drop cloth
Spring/Early Summer: patio

great minds..this is what I was strategizing about.
Since I won't take money out of my house or brokerage account and I won't cut into my savings now I have to do it over time.
Then next fall a granite counter top!

Re: Home improvements-which would you prefer?
I say do the patio and steps because it's a safety issue and once its done, you'll be so happy. In the meantime, spruce things up in the bedroom one by one. There's no reason you can't tackle those things one at a time.
