Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

Did you have a 'housewarming' party?

If yes.. Let me get to the nitty gritty.. Did you Register for gifts?

We moved in 1 week ago today and I have also had many people ask if we are having a housewarming party - which we are going to have - I just want to see what everyone else did... TIA

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

No housewarming party for us!

If I did, I absolutely would not register for gifts.

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

Thank you for your honest answers - I have been getting alot of pressure from one parent to 'register' since we 'did not have an engagement party'. I feel if people want to buy us a gift they will...

I don't want to do things 'wrong' per se.. Dont want to give off the wrong vibe.. I was absolutely curious as to how people put a registry card in with their invite... Chat Icon

We just bought our house 6 weeks ago, no housewarming for us only because I'm 7 months pregnant. But I would not register for gifts.

We had a huge housewarming party with all of our friends and family, but did NOT register for gifts. Most guests brought a gift or bottle of wine, but I certainly wasn't going to ASK for gifts.

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

Didn't have a party and wouldn't have included registry information in an invite if we did.

However, I did open a registry with Williams Sonoma to keep track of the things we did want to buy eventually. Lo and behold, we got a coupon in the mail a year later because of that registry. We never, ever see WS coupons so we were happy! Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

I had a housewarming summer BBQ.

We did not stress the "housewarming" part and made it clear to everyone that we did not want gifts.

We just wanted our friends and families to get together, have a good time and see what we've done with the place.Chat Icon

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

Yes, I had a housewarming but only had it to have people over. I guess I was dumb but I was surprised and embarassed that people brought gifts. I did NOT want them to have to buy me something to come over to eat and drink.

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

I do plan to have a party when our house is actually presentable, but I'm not going to call it a "housewarming" because then people think gifts. I plan to have more of a "let's christen this bittch!" party. And I'll note right on the invite/evite that gifts are not allowed!

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

we had one for mostly my frinds/co-workers to see the house I had been talking about for 6 months.

It was very casual- most people brough bottles of wine/champagne or small amount gift cards to Lowe's etc.

We had one mostly because we bought the "disaster house" of the block, pretty much gutted it and redid it in 4 months. The neighbors were happy to see the previous owners leave and were very welcoming to us so we had a party after all of the renovations were finished.

We never registered and never expected gifts.

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

plan on having a BBQ next summer (1 year in house) since we have to really have a lot of work to do. Not a housewarming party just a seasonal bbq to bring everyone over. After having a shower, wedding i think its insulting to ask for another gift - so not registering.

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

We just bought our house last week and we plan on having a big party probably in the beginning of September. I would NEVER register for anything like that and to tell you the truth I think I would be somewhat offended if I was ever invited to one where the person did register. I just do not think it is a tasteful thing to do. I do believe many people usually bring gifts when it is the first party in a new house but it should be there discretion.

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

We had a housewarming party, and most people showed up with either a bottle of wine/liquor or a small gift. We certainly didn't expect it, and didn't keep track of who gave what (unless it was an actual gift, not a bottle of wine then we made sure to send a thank you card)

I would definitely NOT register for a housewarming party - it would send a message that you are expecting gifts and make you look greedy. The whole point of a housewarming party is for you to invite your friends/family over to greet them into your new home. It's up to them if they want to bring you something to celebrate with.
A registry is super tacky IMO

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

No... we aren't totally unpacked yet LOL But we moved a month after getting married so there's no way i would have registered for gifts! We'll be having hubby's grandpa's birthday in a month, so that will be the housewarming!

Re: Spinoff To Housewarming Party Post...

We didn't have a housewarming party.

For years us and all of our friends have hosted Ornament parties during Christmas.

So when we bought our place, we hosted & friends brought us ornaments and house warming gifts.

We did the same for the newlywed couple that hosted lasts years.

Same here. I would never register for a housewarming. We got some small gifts and some gift certificates.
