Question about LIPA and CAC costs
Hi,
We just moved and I really, really, really want to have CAC put in next year.
If you use LIPA, how much does your electricity bill increase once you start using it? (oh, and can you describe your usage, eg. no one home during the day vs home all day)
Thanks!

Re: Question about LIPA and CAC costs
Our bill is normally $60-$80 per month during the year, but during the summer, it's more like $250 per month. We keep it at 75 degrees.

Re: Question about LIPA and CAC costs
okay...you are all scaring me. My new house will have CAC but with the rates you all just listed, I won't be able to afford to put it on.
Why is everything sooooo darn expensive.

Re: Question about LIPA and CAC costs
We have a center hall colonial and do balanced billing. It is about $180 fall/winter and has gone up to $210/mo. spring/summer.

Re: Question about LIPA and CAC costs
we have been in the 120 range for our LIPA bill (our oven is also electric). we turn on the AC when we get home, and turn it off before bed. 5-6 hours. we dont go below 75 degrees.

Re: Question about LIPA and CAC costs
The costs will vary based on things like size of home, SER of unit(s), number of zones and what temp you prefer
We have multiple 16 SER units, they are programmed to stay at 78 when we aren't home and around 76 when we are.
The units covering the bedrooms lower the temps an hour before bed and go back up shortly after we wake up
I think I average $150-$175 a month for July/August
In June I usually uses the CAC system to circulate the air.
During the year I use the system now and then to filter the air.
Its a great investment, go for it

Re: Question about LIPA and CAC costs
My electric bills in the summer are insane due to my CAC. But then again I use my CAC a lot and freeze the hell out of my house.
But I also work during the day so the system is off so I get some relief with the electric.
If was home all day with kids, I am sure it would be a lot worse.
But I don't mind paying the electric bill because you can't put a price on CAC comfort.
