Gatorade and blood glucose level

Since I suffer from Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), I monitor my blood sugar everyday. I just recently noticed that on days where I have consumed Gatorade, my blood glucose levels are higher then normal. It took me a few days to figure out why I was getting readings in the 140-150 range. Then tonight I put two and two together. I have been keeping a food diary for the past week and the day of or the day after I drank Gatorade, I was high.

I have to remember not to drink it within 24 hours of taking my 1 hour or I will fail it...

Just wanted to let others know this little bit of information....

Re: Gatorade and blood glucose level

As a diabetic of 23+ years, I've found that liquid sugar drinks (soda, juices, Gatorade, etc) are almost as bad as injecting sugar directly into the blood stream. There's not much for the body to break down, so it gets absorbed very quickly and easily. Great for when you are crashing from low blood sugar, but you have to watch that rebound.

I have been testing myself for years and I never would have figured this out if I wasn't pregnant. I have been really diligent about testing myself because I have to take my glucose screening test in 2 weeks. I have been testing myself more often during the day. I couldn't figure out what the spike was from. Thanks for the info...
