how long to get a contract signed?
The couple buying our co-op were supposed to sign the contract today. They actually should have done it last week but they're really dragging their feet on this. DH found a home we love and want to put an offer in but we can't do this until they sign. Our REA seems to accept all the bullsh*t stories we're getting and really thinks they're going to sign but DH and I are getting annoyed and we're not sure that they're ever going to sign.
Our REA said the amount of time it is taking for them to sign is normal for co-ops. This time they said that the lawyer couldn't meet with them and had to change the appt. Meanwhile, last week they said they were definitely going to sign today and that they both took off of work so they can go in and sit with the lawyer to sign. Our lawyer is also calling their bluff and doesn't believe a word of it. Ugh I don't know if this is a vent or a question!

Re: how long to get a contract signed?
We had the opposite problem, as buyers we signed ASAP and felt like it took forever for the seller to sign!

Re: how long to get a contract signed?
it took us awhile to sign the contract for our coop- our lawyer had to go through the financials- then there were some issues on the contract- I think it was at least 2 weeks.. then after the seller complained about how long we took, she took over a month

Re: how long to get a contract signed?
that's weird. i wonder if you can give them a deadline? can your lawyer ask their lawyer if they don't intend on signing within three days that you will pull the contract? can he/she say that you are waiting for fully signed contracts to in order to put an offer on a home and this is holding his / her clients up?
we, as sellers, signed as soon as it was in my attys hands. the buyers signed as soon as it got to their attys hands!
don't know why your buyers are doing this? do you have to get approval or something from the board with co-ops?

Re: how long to get a contract signed?
They do need to be approved by the board but that doesn't come until later, after we've both signed the contract. I don't know why they're dragging their feet like this. It's annoying because we had another buyer that we turned away because these people came in $1k higher to make sure they'd get the apt and now they're doing this. It doesn't make sense. DH and I decided that if they don't sign by tomorrow, we're holding another open house this weekend.

Can you call the agent for the other buyer that you turned down? They may still be interested

Re: how long to get a contract signed?
i definetely agree with you to have another open house if they don't sign tomorrow. All bets are off until a contract is signed & deposit is given.
ugh.. we just went through this so i feel your pain!
hang in there
