Does anyone NOT use face lotion?

My dermatologist wants me to try to NOT put any moisturizer on my face b/c of my oily skin. I was in shock, I moisturize every day and night so I won't get wrinkles. She said it has nothing to do with not getting wrinkles!!!

She asked me to try it for one week. I left the house and my skin looked gross to me ( no makeup ) but now about an hour later at work - I feel like my skin looks like I put lotion on! I guess my skin IS that oily!

She also put me on Retin-A so no wrinkles! LOL I just noticed my skin looked like it was getting ready to break out so I went to prevent it from happening. . . hope this all works.

i use a skin balancing face oil and love the results (i too have oily skin). seems counter intuitive to put oil on oily skin but it works!

Re: Does anyone NOT use face lotion?

I'm surprised a dermatologist would recommend not using a face lotion, considering that so many of them have SPF. I'd rather have oily skin than cancer!

I have extremely oily skin but almost always wear face lotion. There are plenty out there that are oil free and/or mattifying, so they don't compound the problem.

ETA: I don't use an anti-wrinkle product, just moisturizer.

She knows me and she knows that I am inside all day ( I leave at 6AM and get home after 5PM ) and she told me to use Neutrogena Sheer for SPF on the weekends.

I have to say its 10AM and my face would usually be an oil slick right now - but its not bad at all, definitely doesnt look dry!

I never used to wear it in the past.
I would say if the dermo is reccomending it, it must be ok for your siuation.
See how it works out.

You know my mother is 54 and she NEVER in her life used any kind of moisturizer, lotion or creams on her face. She has NO wrinkles, just very, very unnoticeable fine lines around her eyes , but that's it. I'm 29 , I've been using moisturizers with SPF since I was 18 and I can see some fine lines developing around my eyes already(my friends and DH tell me I'm seeing things, lol, but I know they are there)Chat Icon Chat Icon

just used it for one day so far so i will let you know after a few weeks

before this i was on Ovace medicated wash and clindagel morning and night. She told me to come back in a week and I would probably need an intensive moisturizer after using those products. She actually thought that I wasnt using them b/c she said most patients get extremely dry skin!

She said if the Retin-A doesn't giv eme dry skin she will be shocked LOL I bet it doesnt, im such a greasy eye-talian!

Yes, I tried Retinol and it dried my skin out SOOO bad that it was flaking and red and peeling! And I have semi-oily skin.
I never got why it did that- it's supposed to be anti-aging so why would it dry you out so bad??

I'll be curious to see how this works for you - coming from another oily moisturizer user Chat Icon

Retin-A caused drying, flaking and peeling for me... hopefully you will do better on it than I did!

If it doesn't work out, you could always use a special moisturizer just for your eyes/other wrinkle-prone areas and leave the rest of your face alone I guess.

I also tried Retin A and it made my skin super dry and red. you have to be VERY careful in the sun with Retin A (but then again you have much darker skin tones than me, I am as white as a German/Irish can be) Chat Icon

Re: Does anyone NOT use face lotion?

I do not use anything. I dont have oily skin, but do not need anything. I have olive skin so I do not feel that I need anything.

Re: Does anyone NOT use face lotion?

i have a very oily t-zone and i do not use any moisturizer at all. i use a prescription acne cream at night and my make-up has SPF 15 in it (i am inside all day but it helps for when i am in the car, etc.)

i am going to be 30 in march and other than some very, very fine lines near my eyes i have zero wrinkles and my skin always looks nice (except for these pregnancy breakouts Chat Icon)

i bet the retin-a will help a ton! but be careful because your skin will be more sensitive to sun on the days that you are exposed.
