Ladies delivering at Winthrop I am a little upset
My doctor gave me a bunch of forms to fill out & among the forms were Hospital forms from Winthrop regarding giving my consent to operation, anesthesia.. etc
Fine, so I get to the last point of the form and it says:
I consent to the admittance of observers (including manufacturer representatives) to the operating room and to the photographing or televising of the operation or procedure to be performed, including any appropriate portions of my body, for the purpose of advancing medical education and for other medical or scientific purposes, provided my identity is not revealed by either pictures or the descriptive texts accompanying them.
I am 100% NOT comfortable with signing this at all. Will they not allow me to give birth there if I don't sign? Did you guys have to sign this form as well?

i dont recall this section of the consent form. but i chose this hospital fully knowing that it was a teaching hospital so for me, personally, im ok with it. but if you're not, maybe you could cross that section out and sign it. maybe they wont even notice.

Yeah, I wonder if I could just cross that part out or while i'm in the delivery room, I could scream & throw a tantrum until any extra people leave the delivery room- lol.

I'm delivering there and I didn't have anything like that. I agree with the pp just cross it out and do not sign that part of the form. When I went on the hospital tour someone asked about med students and misc. people being allowed into the rooms and the nurse giving the tour said that there is no way they will allow anyone in without the patients consent.

I saw this on the form too. As previous posters mentioned, just cross it out and say you don't consent to it.

I do remember seeing it and I signed it. I didn't have a problem with it, though, because I knew it was a teaching hospital.
I'd say to call the OB to ask about it if it makes you uncomfortable.

I don't remember signing that. When i delivered ds the nurses asked me if the med students could observe and I said no. I didn't want an audience.

I don't recall seeing this in my paperwork, maybe it is new. You don't have to agree to it.

It's been there for years, I used to work there so if you didn't notice it then you did sign it it's on the bottom of the OB consent. Don't know why they have this exact writing but we've never filmed any kind of procedure in L&D although you may be asked if a med or nursing student can observe as it is a teaching hospital but they wouldn't force it upon you because you signed the consent. I have crossed it out for some patients so feel free to do so.

see that's the thing, i wouldn't mind if ONE med or nursing student was there. Of course, it would be great for a student to get as much exposure as possible to become a great Dr or nurse. It's the photographing of "portions of my body" and manufacturer reps being present that I do not agree with. I will just say No to all & play it safe.
