My DD was a big babbler as well. She said ma-ma and da-da at 7 months. She said her first words, "hi" followed by "baby" at 9 months.

DS was a big babbler, but he is actually behind with his speech. He's 19 months and says 4 words, 1 animal sound.

Re: Mom's that had infants that were major babblers?

Not mine..... Our speech therapists and our Ped have described to us that babbling is an infant relex....just like rolling over, or grasping etc, babbling is not intentional, it is all reflex at that age ( 6-8 months is when it usually comes out) ....

So my son babbled at the right age but has a severe speech dealy....babbling serves no prediction of later speech unl;ess it is suddenly "lost"...sometimes then there can be a medical issue.

DS is still babbling at 10.5 months. no words, but lots of "da" "ga" and "ba"

he's a boy though, and i have heard that they talk later, so i am not worried.

DS babbles all day too and has for a few months but no "real" words yet! Some days I swear he is saying "hi" though, lol. He'll be 8 months on Saturday and I'm so anxious for it too!

Andrew was a huge babbler and was speaking very clearly by 1. By 2, he was speaking full sentences and could say every word.

Re: Mom's that had infants that were major babblers?

Not really... he babbled and "talked" with jargon, but actual words happened at around 15-16 mts, and talking where most people could understand by around 20 mts.

The ped was shocked at his babbling at 2 mts - he started "talking" like that very young - but TALKING talking came at the standard time for him.

ETA - by 2, he was speaking full sentences. At 27 mts, we can have full conversations - including things he did at school, yesterday, over the weekend, etc....

Re: Mom's that had infants that were major babblers?

thanks ladies, I was a very early talker and I spoke two languages, so my mom thinks I passed this on to her...I'm also trying to talk to her in another language as well, but I think I'm not doing it conisitently enough for her to get it...
