Cat deterent....
Before I get flamed....
My neighbor has an outdoor cat. This cat has decided to use our lawn as it's bathroom. DH and I have been outside pruning bushes, etc and have stepped in the poop, smelled it from inside when windows are open, etc.
It was recommended to put down moth balls to make the cat go away. We came home this afternoon and the cat was in the middle of the lawn doing its business.
Plus, it's driving our dog nuts...
So, please help....what can we sprinkle on the lawn or garden (wood chips) that will act as a deterent? I'm not looking to harm the cat, but I want it and it's business (and smell of it) to go away!!!

Re: Cat deterent....
I'd like to know this too. Our neighbor lets 4 stray cats 'stay' at their house. While I don't mind the cats taking care of mice since we live near woods, I'd prefer not to smell poop and urine right outside me window. I actually saw one of the cats dig up my newly planted plants, and poop in my new flower bed today.

I'd like to know too. We have many stray cats....or cats with owners that let their cats wander, who knows. I'm sick of them getting into my garbage and sick of hearing the cat fights outside my window.

Citrus is a natural deterrent. You can buy a spray or maybe cut up oranges?

Re: Cat deterent....
i am all for cats but i do think its really bothersome for people to have outdoor cats since they usually do their business in everyone's yards. If we adopt a cat it is staying indoors!

I wish....she won't bark at the cats! When we came home from my ILs, she just stared at the cat and started wagging her tail! I think it must be b/c of the weekend she stayed with you and your 3 cats!
However, when my ILs have their dogs over, they bark like crazy as does our next door neighbor's dog! Daisy just wags her tail!

Re: Cat deterent....
I was told to use chili powder! My brother works for a nursery and they sell a cat/animal deterrent and its main ingredient is chili powder. Apparently cats hate it.
I didn't used to mind the cats in our yard until one day I found one stalking a bird with a broken wing. I know it's their natural instinct but I am an animal lover with a soft spot for birds so I didn't want it to happen on my yard!
I chased the cat away and brought the bird to Sweetbriar where it was going to be rehabilitated if possible or perhaps put down, but at least not eaten on my front lawn!
Since we got our dog though I don't see the cats very often!

Re: Cat deterent....
i'd put mothballs down around the foundation of your house and then chili powder on the lawn. haven't ever used the chili powder method but have heard it works.
