My zucchinni and peppers have had blossums for about a week and today I noticed my beans and tomatoes starting. They are not as tall as I expected. They took forever to fill out.

Oh, my radishes should have been ready but they top heavy because of the rain. I figure I will let them stay in the ground longer.

my oregano actually took over, it invaded 2 beds its was never in & is growing like crazy in the ground between the beds. I've never seen anything like it, I guess itlikes this weather.
I have a few small cucumbers & I finally see zucchini flowers. My tomato plants are so small, I really don't know if they will catch up. Usually by now they are taller than the cages & I'm trying to prop them up.

Its typically a few degrees cooler here than the rest of LI so my plants need a few good hot days.

I have white blossoms all over my pepper plants and my cucumbers are starting to grow wild - and they were grown from seeds.

Re: Gardeners -

I'm just starting to see some progress too. My zuchinni and squash have beautiful flowers are are expanding. My eggplant is just starting to bud. My 2 tomato plants are tiny but I counted 7 tomatoes so far. The rain killed my peppers, apparently I have a rain spout that shoots water right where my peppers were so they were dug up in the torrential rains 2 weeks ago.

As for my flowers, my petunias aren't expanding at all --- they are just staying as I put them in the ground. They are alive and have flowers but usually by now they have expanded. I transplanted my stella d'oro daylilies from containers and they are flowering nicely. My knock out roses are flowering every couple of days. And my geraniums are holding up. I've noticed the flowers stay longer in the ground than in containers. I'm new to ground planting so this is all new to me.

I am spending 2-3 hours every few days cleaning up all the weeds and overgrown bushes the old owners left behind --- I've been through at least 75 contractor bags and numerous bundles of branches. Some of the bushes are too overgrown and dead underneath to survive I'm afraid. Part of me wants to bulldoze everything and start over Chat Icon

Re: Gardeners -

All my flowers and shrubs are huge this year. I will need to prune at the end of the season and even move some stuff (Daylilies) because it's taken over some of the beds. My Petunia's are huge, but one of them (in a pot on front stoop) is starting not to look too good. We just keep pruning off the dead flowers and more come back.

Re: Gardeners -

Everything is doing very nicely except for my trees! My cherry tree has some kind of bacterial disease and is dropping leaves like it's autumn. Chat Icon

I was trimming my japanese maple which looked great in the beginning of spring but now has cottony scale. As do my hydrangea bushes. I guess they thrive in wet environments. I've never had it on my tree before.

The flowers on my moptop hydrangea were a more vibrant blue than I've ever seen before. Except for two, all the plants I bought and planted from Bluestone Perennials are thriving.

I do have lots of mushrooms growing in my mulched beds though! I have to keep kicking them around and then fluffing up the mulch so it's not so compacted!

Otherwise, all is well.

Everything looks very good, though I had to treat my rose bush for black spot (I'm only planting Knock Outs from now on). And my African Daisies are not looking so good, the plants are okay, but almost no flowers.

And my pansies are still okay oddly enough!

Re: Gardeners -

I am stilll a very basic gardener, but so far, so good! My impatients and black-eyed susans are growing really well. Where we seeded has come in beautifully, thanks to the constant rain.

We just planted hostas today, so I am hopeful they are successful too!!

My roses are budding for a second bloom I really cut them back due to that black spot fungus and they are looking good.

Our tomatos are starting to flower and look good. My zuchini have had a number of flowers that have all dropped off but they are finally starting to really grow so hopefully we will get something. My peppers and eggplant look like they are not going to make it. I think the rain was just too much for them. I may buy a couple of established plants as replacements.

Re: Gardeners -

My eggplant and bell pepper are FINALLY starting to grow- I swear, the eggplant didn't grow for about 1 1/2 months at all b/c of all the rain.

The basil somehow came back to life- was really almost dead.

Zucchini has flowers but the squash keep rotting.
