I need help thinking of a 20 minute literacy demo lesson for Kindergarten
I made it through two rounds of interviews this week (yay!!) and I just got the call that I have to prepare a demo lesson for tomorrow. It's for grade K and it has to be literacy related, but I have to keep it SIMPLE since I only have 20 minutes. It can be anything, even something they have already learned...he mentioned phon. awareness, word play, etc.
I am teaching this demo lesson at the end of the day on a Friday on the 2nd to last day of school. Fun right? I need something really good to keep their attention. Any ideas? TIA!

First of all congrats! Is this for a LI teaching probationary position? If so, what district? Good for you!
I teach K and short and sweet but meaningful is the key! If I had more time I'd try to help but I am running out the door, sorry! Good Luck!
PS. search online..you'll find a great idea!

I bet that most candidates come in with fiction/literature...why not come in with a non-fiction book? Learner Pub/Welcome Books/Captree(sp?) Helen Frost and Lynne Stone all have great series of non-fiction books.
I think it's a way to set you apart

Re: I need help thinking of a 20 minute literacy demo lesson for Kindergarten
This is for a probationary position in Connecticut. It's actually pretty hard to find teaching jobs here too though. So I am shocked that I even got called for an interview. I've been a SAHM for 4 years now and am trying to get back into teaching.
Anyway, I already came up with something Erica but I do love your idea...I should have read the responses earlier. I'm going to do something with digraphs...I'm reading Sheep on a Ship (big book), brainstorming "sh" words, etc. Hope that's good enough! Thanks girls.

I taught k for 4 years... are you aiming for a minilesson? If so you could do using patterns in books or using the pictures to help you with tricky words. FM me if you need anymore help. I think that's a great idea with the diagraphs. Good luck!
