Re: exciting topic---- toilets
Whatever you do ,DO NOT get the pegusus water saver one if you use more than 2 pieces of TP it clogs ! You have to #2 then flush ..then wipe ..then flush etc.... What a PITA !! And you end up wasting more water

Newest one is a Sterling Vikrell, from Consumers Kitchen and Bath. It's a dual-flush, so the #1 button uses .8 gallons, and the #2 button uses the standard 1.6 gallons. It's designed very efficiently so it works very well, and it's nice knowing that you're saving almost a gallon of water for each #1 flush.

Yes for some reason it came it two pieces (priced separately) but they had them one next to the other in the store.

Re: exciting topic---- toilets
We have two Totos - which are awesome - and they come with the soft-close seats. We also have a Kohler which is good but not as good as the Totos (and no soft close seat).

I love the soft close seats. I have that in the new bathroom, which is mainly for DC. In the older bathrooms, DS had a habit if dropping the seat from as close to vertical as possible....
You can always replace your current seat with a soft close. I got mine from HD for around $20. It's also got convenient clasps so you can take the seat off for easy cleaning in about two seconds.

Re: exciting topic---- toilets
The hunt for a toilet was much more difficult than I ever imagined.
There are different shapes (round or elongated), heights (regular or comfort), one piece or two piece, different flushes as well as different brands. I thought I would walk in and say I want a white toilet and get the one with the best price but, I was mistaken.
After a lot of pondering, we got 2 new Kohler toilets - one a series 5 flush regular height elongated and one a series 6 flush comfort height elongated. They are two piece, separate tank and bowl (two piece tends to be cheaper than one piece). We are happy with them.
We do have the soft close seats which are detachable for cleaning - I love that part too! We purchased the seats separately.
We ordered ours through a plumbing supply store - the price ended up being the same as it would've been for us to order from Lowes.

Re: exciting topic---- toilets
We have a Kohler Cimarron (sp?) comfort height toilet - but our contractor picked it up for us so I am not sure where he got it. We are happy with it - it has a small tank which we like since we are trying to make our small bathroom appear bigger!

is series 6 much better? less clogs? and water cleans bowl better?

Re: exciting topic---- toilets
We just ordered the Toto Whitney and what a process that was for me to decide! Our plumber spoke highly of Totos though, so we focused on that brand.

Re: exciting topic---- toilets
Our plumber recommended the Kohler Wellworth. He said he NEVER has problems with those once installed. We went with the elongated comfort height and have no regrets. No children in the house so the higher height isn't an issue. We have a flush-assist upstairs and regular versions on the main floor. Not sure why the difference - we just gave them color and they ordered them as we did the various renovations.
On a funny side note, I did run across one site while researching that said for toilet training kids the round seat was easier for girls and the elongated was easier for boys. Never really thought about it but I guess it makes some sense.
