Re: BTDT moms...I need help Updated to add rocker/bouncer question!

Two story home when we had Alex - we bought a tiny, portable bassinet for bringing her around the house. And we kept a pack n' play downstairs.

As for the pump, I HIGHLY suggest you don't buy one until after baby comes - you never know what will happen and you'll regret spending all that money if it doesn't work out for some reason. Also, they recommend you don't pump for the first 3 weeks anyway if you also plan on nursing. Once you do buy a pump, I'd go with the advanced Medela pump in style - worked wonders for me.

We also had one bouncy seat and one infant to toddler rocker and we used both, a lot.

Hope that helps!

thank you all again so much.

so, basically you are all telling me that registering for this stuff is a crap shoot, b/c you really can't *know* what your baby will and will not like.

so I should get it all and see what works.

I kinda thought that may be the case but was afraid Chat Icon

2 more questions

1) is any of this stuff returnable if we don't use it or use it once?

and

2) yes, we will be at our house every weekend, and I will be spending basically my entire maternity leave there (barring dr visit days) so my question is

if I have say, the swing at my house and the baby enjoys it, what are the odds that he/she WON'T miss it if we don't have it in our apt? or, does it have to be consistent? (same toys everywhere)

thanks again.

Well, when Christopher was a newborn, we spent a lot of time at my parents house in Montauk, so I did bring a travel swing out there so we'd have SOMETHING there.

So I'd probably wait it out for a bit and see what DC likes and then get something for the apartment.

see, that's the other thing I am getting from you all...to wait and see what works after the baby comes.

so, please forgive the stupidity of this question, but what do I register for then? we are team green so it's not like I can register for tons of clothes. we are purchasing items like the stroller etc ourselves b/c the one I want isn't available here....I am probably going to take your wise advice about renting the pump first...so I just don't know.

I am just at a loss here. Chat Icon

Not a stupid question at all. I've never met a baby who didn't like the bouncy seat. We have the Fisher Price rainforest bouncer...I think now the pattern is Precious Planet...not that that matters. DS would live in it if I let him at this point, it's the only way I can take a shower. So I think you should def. register for that. We don't have a PNP but that's because we live in a 1 bdrm in the city so there's no need. But, my mom did get one for her house when we go there occasionally. DS doesn't really like it though. He hates the swing which we borrowed from a family member so I'm glad we didn't register for it. But, he's also like the only baby I've heard of that didn't like it. Thing is some babies like a back and forth swing, and some like side to side. We registered for a travel swing that goes back and forth and can fold up which is good for our apt, but he hated it so we returned it. The full size swing we then borrowed was a side to side, he hated that too, so we gave it back. For us, registering was a space issue since it's a small apt.

Also, register for an activity mat, DS loves it now that he can actually see what's hanging from it. Keeps him occupied while I make dinner or while i'm on the computer. I have the Tiny Love Gymini mat. But yes, it's all a wait and see game, you can alway return most of it...or, save it for the next baby, they might like it.

Honestly, follow the lists and what people recommend and hopefully it will work! Most babies do take to the most popular items out there (hence why they areChat Icon ) and honestly, I would register for at least one bouncy, one swing, and then the basics, sheets, towels, etc.

I think what a lot of us mean about the "wait and see" mentality is that you shouldn't buy TWO of something just yet, KWIM? I mean, if DC loves the bouncer, then buy a second for your apartment, but *I* wouldn't register for or buy 2.Chat Icon

I used a co-sleeper in our room for the first 3 months. Then DS went to his crib. We have a pack N play in the living room which we use ALL the time especially now that DS is sitting up. He plays in there, naps in there, and it's perfect if you need to run to the bathroom, etc.

And just to mention I live in an apartment which is all one floor.

My son never liked his rocker. He loved the bouncy seat. In the beginning, we would put him in the bouncy, put it on vibrate and it was instant nap time. Chat Icon The bouncy seat is a requirement, at least for me. Chat Icon

Re: BTDT moms...I need help Updated to add rocker/bouncer question!

We had two or three (to keep on the 2nd floor, main floor, and basement) of everything. I hated carrying stuff up and down stairs.

We had:

Sweet Peace Swing - took the rocker out and used it in the basement. We then kept the infant carrier in the swing. She took naps in here up until a month ago.

2 infant to toddler rockers - one on the first floor, one on the second. We still use both and she is 12 months.

2 pack and plays - the regular size is on the first floor - she takes naps and plays there. The mini one is in our bedroom on the second floor. We used this as a bassinet until she moved into her crib and now she plays in there.

You know how your house runs. We are always all over the house and when she was little, we needed a place to put her on every floor.

I wouldn't worry about having the same things in both places. In the beginning, the gear isn't THAT critical. I find that it is actually harder now that Brandon is older because he gets bored with his toys so quickly and wants to be into everything all the time. Chat Icon

Get one bouncer and see if the baby likes it so much. If yes, get another. Otherwise, register for all of the necessities and what works for you.
