This month's electric bill was $6.18!
This month, we used -57KWhs of electric.... We still have to pay taxes and the daily fee for just having the line installed, so it looks like we'll be paying $.20 per day, no matter what. I can deal with that....
I love solar panels...

That's AWESOME! I was just telling DH about your solar panel experiment the other day. I'll have to give him the update.

Cam you give us an idea as to how much they cost?
My roof needs to be done in next 3-5 years and I'd love to do this provide the cost was reasonable. My house gets full sun all day so I think it makes sense.

No. I designed the layout of the house so there is a lot of cross-breeze. I also have ceiling fans in all the rooms, and a whole-house fan. This is my first year with CAC, and the first year with panels, so everything is an unknown at this point...

We had them installed in early February of this year.

Of course, it varies by the number of panels. LIPA pays for roughly half up front, and NY pays up to $5k. The Fed then pays for 30% of the remainder (including installation). After all is said and done, it will cost us around $19k. Without having actual data for a full year, we're guessing an 8-10 year ROI. There's a 25 year warranty, and no moving parts, so no reason they won't last a lot longer than that. We have 36 panels, making 8100 watts, so you can probably do the rough math for your own setup based on that, either plus or minus.

Did you go through LIPA's solar program? If not who did you use?

As far as what aspect? I went through their program for the rebates (and I got a "Solar Pioneer" certificate from them... ). They weren't directly involved in the installation, though.
I used: David Ciprios Systems Design [email protected] sunpowersystems.net 1217 Montauk Highway Oakdale,NY. 11769 Office-631-750-9454 Cell-631-338-5510 SAVING THE EARTH ONE SOLAR SYSTEM AT A TIME
FM me if you're thinking about panels....

Re: This month's electric bill was $6.18!
I am looking at solar now. A sales rep told me I'd need a 10 kw system to cover all my electric needs. That would be a whopping $70,000! I put numbers into LIPA's estimator and came out much lower, so don't know what to think. LIPA's solar rep is not returning my calls.
I do know that the big LIPA rebates end as of September 15th, so anyone thinking about using them needs to move fast. It's $1000 for the application, then a wait for approval in your town, probably a few months before they go up. The application is good for six months once approved, and I believe can be extended.

I'll FM you with more info, but you definitely need to talk with someone else.
The LIPA rebates aren't ending anytime soon. http://www.lipower.org/efficiency/solar-home-rebates.html There shouldn't be any fee for the application (I know that I didn't pay any fee, and I had mine installed this February). Approval for the panels is very quick (unlike the other permits I had to get from Islip Town.... )
You also don't need to satisfy ALL your electrical needs with solar. Put what you can fit on the roof and/or what you can afford. You're still cutting into your usage from the grid.
A 10,000kWH system, after all rebates, should cost you somewhere closer to $25,000-$30,000.
