how to fix outdoor faucet problem

Whenever we screw a hose onto the faucet, it leaks horribly at the point of faucet/hose connection. It's likely the faucet, since it happens with all hoses. I suspect some of the threading on the faucet has been damaged over the years.

Is there any way to do a half azz fix for this? (I can only think of teflon tape over the faucet threads... would that even work?) I REALLY don't want to spend the $ to call a plumber and have them replace the entire faucet.

TIA!

I would get an extension. It's a very short (3" or so) piece of hose, usually with a spring over it. It's designed to take the stress of the hose so the faucet doesn't have to. Use the teflon tape on the extension/faucet connection, and the end where the hoses attach will now be brand-new.

I know that HD has them. If you can't find the flex-hose extension, you can get a two-way splitter. It will serve the same purpose for you. You want to have the faucet connection basically permanent, and the hoses to connect to a new connection.

Re: how to fix outdoor faucet problem

definitely snagging some teflon tape first..... the hose that is currently attached we want to keep attached all summer.... so if that works, we're golden.

One thing about the extension hose and the splitter...... would the connection between them and the faucet be any better than the original hose? the current hose isn't being pulled and isn't at an unusual angle... If I add these things, I suspect the leak will just move from the hose, to between the faucet and the extension/splitter, KWIM?
