worried about the economy and house hunting...

i know this is dumb, but the economy right now is perfect for a buyer like me and DH, and i am so scared we won't find our home before the economy improves, and we won't be able to buy a decent home in our price range... Chat Icon

Re: worried about the economy and house hunting...

you willl found your house...hang in there!!! We must have looked at 60 or so houses until we found ours. I sooo wish I was in your shoes right now instead of buying a house when we did in 2007!

We have several houses in our area for sale. Nice ranch , three houses from me, 3 bedroom, redone...Hauppauge schools(read...low taxes) and weekends paydates with me...all for the low price of 430,000 which they probably will get for 400,000...needs very little work...or so I was told!

I am right with you! Terrified that houses are going to climb up and interest rates are going to be scary again. We just bid on anything and yet so far only one counter offer as of today. Its scary.

Re: worried about the economy and house hunting...

We've bid on way more houses than i thought but people still want a ton for their homes that need $100k worth of work. I cannot pay $400k for a house with $10k in taxes AND still put $100k into it.

Very discouraging.

this is exactly what we are dealing with! it is so frustrating because there are homes out there (including one we love) that are original 1950s but the owners are delusional and asking way more than the house is actually worth. even if we paid asking i doubt the house would appraise for that.

Re: worried about the economy and house hunting...

i hear you on people asking for crazy amounts of money Chat Icon

what is crazy is even if you HAD the money or were willing to pay the money, lots of times you wont even get approved for a mortgage b/c banks arent going to lend you $ for something that is worth less than what you are offering....at least that is what we were told - we found a house we like that isn't a short sale but they are asking 55K more than what the property is worth - and our mortgage person told us that even if we offered that amount in the end we probably wouldnt be able to get a mortgage loan b/c the appraisal will come back to low....that is also in florida and i heard florida is becoming really strict with lending b/c of the crisis they are in...

Personally because of the economy I don't feel confident buying. Yes the housing market is a buyers market but my DH is in banking and even though I work in healthcare, my job has been making cutbacks. I'm afraid to buy because of the what ifs. Does that make sense?

i would agree with you but DH and i have jobs where we will not be laid off, so that is not a worry for us.

Just keep searching. You may not find the perfect house but could make it perfect.

I'm lookin too but im not worried about the economy goin back up. We have time on our hands and I do feel that the economy is getting worse...house prices are continuing to drop...I was talkin to my father about this... the house prices started to drop in the West (california) and makes its way over to the east (us) and then once cali starts to stabilize then it makes it way over here...dont worry cause we still have plenty of time. I believe through 2010 prices will continue to drop and then stabilize for awhile...

a house on my block just sold for 400k, and the entire house is being gutted right now, everything was original, i am sure they are putting alot of $$ into the house

another house a few doors down sold for 513k, and they still didn't move in yet, they are still redoing it, and they ripped a lot of stuff out and it was kinda decent on the inside.
