Ladies and gents, I can really use some advice
DH and I currently live in queens. We have a wonderful 3 bedroom house that we have put a lot of work into over the years. Most recently we redid the kitchen, but over time we have done a ton of things to the house to make it our own.
We decided recently that we need more room, and want to move to great neck. We like the community feel there, the town, the ammenities (pool, tennis courts, etc...) Plus it would still be close to the train and wouldn't add on to DH's commute.
We saw a house we really like this weekend. It's 4 bedrooms (v. our 3), and the living space is larger. its not our DREAM home...but it's an "in" into an expensive area and we would be really happy in the house. For our dream home we would need to spend about $400,000 more...and we just aren't ready for that - so this is a great inbetween step.
Here's the dilemma...when I think about actually moving...leaving certain things I have here and leaving my comfort of what I have here - I start getting really anxious. I am nervous I am going to regret it. I will miss my kitchen, my heated floors, the sie of my closet (the new one is smaller), etc...
BUT the new house is in an amaaaaazing location, MUCH better school district, close to the water with a ton on young families, and it would give me more space for my business and growing family (I am almost 6 mo. preggo and I have a 3.5 year old).
SO why am I feeling so anxious? I really LOVE the house - love the 'hood....is this anxiety normal or am I just not ready yet? I just don't know...and it's keeping me up at night.
Any advice would be appreciated...please dont quote..Thanks!!

I think most people experience anxiety when they are moving. Anxiety is normal when change is involved in general. If you really think that this house is a great in between to your dream home I say do it. You will adjust. It my take a little while but you will eventually adjust. Good Luck

change can be a scary thing but after a while your new home will feel just as good as this one and getting into a better area where you can see yourself settling down for a while is worth it to me...and it doesn't have to be your dream home from the get go...you can make it into one! Good Luck!

There are always compromises when purchasing a new home (unless you have an unlimited budget!) Sounds to me like you've found something great. And going to Great Neck means you can have the chance for your dream home without switching towns and schools when you are ready. I'm actually moving to Great Neck next month, so if you decide to do it definately send me a message, we can help each other find the good places to go with the kiddies!

I absolutely think it's normal, and you are pregnant. Hormones, as I'm sure you know, do crazy things to your emotional state.
I think you will find things about the new house and neighborhood that you will love and you will forget all the things about your current house that were giving you anxiety.
good luck!!!

TOTALLY normal. I felt the same anxiety and fear of regret when we moved to our new place - it was especially poignant for me because that was the home where we conceived and had Alex. All my most wonderful and beautiful memories were there, and we had renovated it all ourselves, so the house itself was our project, our baby.
I dragged my heels A LOT on making an offer on our current home. But at the end of the day, it was a wise choice, and looking back, I have absolutely NO regrets, as I'm sure you won't either. Change is scary, but it can also bring the most beautiful things in life if you are willing to shake up your comfort zone and take a leap of faith
