Does anyone have the Step2 Naturally Playful Sand & Water Center?

Am I setting myself up for a HUGE mess or lots of fun for DS with this? I am debating between a plain water table (the on sale one at Target) OR splurging & getting this for DS for his 1st Birthday!

We have this. I got it for Ava's 4th birthday. It is great. Kids of all ages love it! We have even had 8 year olds playing with it.

My friend's 15 month old throws the sand or dumps it in the water.

Personally, I would go with the water table, and get this one in a year or 2.

I have this one and my kids love it, even my 6 1/2 year old. I don't really care about the mess though. They enjoy it and it all gets cleaned up in the end. I've given up the fight of trying to keep kid stuff the way an adult would keep it. LOL

ETA: I just reread that your DS is 1. My youngest is 3 and gets the idea of not tossing the sand around (most of the time anyway Chat Icon ) You could try the sand with him and if he is tossing it, you could fill both sides with water till he's a bit older.

i got it for my 2 year old and so far only hvae sand in it. that's been pretty messy but he loves it and it keeps him busy for a while. i think i'll put the water in when i have his little pool out so that i can have him 'rinse' off the sand before he comes in the house.

We just got this for DD (almost 2) and she LOVES it. We are just using it with water for now.

We have it for my 1 year old and have just put water in it because my dh keeps forgetting to buy the sand so I don't know how messy it is.... why don't you just buy it and just use it with water for now? This way you are actually saving money instead of winding up with 2. Once your dc is old enough add the sand and it will be like a new toy!Chat Icon

We just got the water table on sale at Target. DS played with it allllll day today... he loves it! It wasn't the exact one I wanted but it is a great deal. When DS gets older I'll get him a sandbox if he wants one. At this age, he tried to lick sand off his hands so I wouldn't want one now. (unless you use rice, pasta, oatmeal instead of sand)

We are just planning on getting a water table. I am also weary of the mess the sand may pose.
