Interesting theory regarding the smoke monster/Locke/and the dead on the island...

You and I are totally on the same page! You explained it so much better. I forgot about Ben trying to summon the black smoke but couldn't - that also makes sense - That black smoke is certainly a trickster!!!Chat Icon

The guy with the black shirt in the beginning has taken on the form of Locke. Because in the beginning of the show, he tells Jacob he wishes he could kill him & that one day he'd find a loophole.

Then at the end, the fake Locke/black shirt guy tells Jacob that he found a loophole.

Ok ok one more thing...

Someone mentioned the black/white theme. I LOVE that idea. Did you notice at the end the colors were reversed (instead of black with white LOST letters it was white with black LOST letters)

I definately noticed that. I like it.

ed: Love the Jacob in white/guy in black God vs devil theory

and the Black smoke monster = guy in black !

Did anyone watch the re-cap before the episode? The creator and director stated that there will be exciting story twists that will explained next season! I hope that includes who the woman with the dark curly hair is who captured Sayid. What is her role? I noticed that Jacob seems to be able to heal people (he seemed to bring Locke back to life) - so Im guessing whatever injuries that woman had (with the bandages on her face) Jacob healed her as well.

Re: Lets Talk Lost...

Quick questions -

1 - how did Locke's father get on the island? (remember Sawyer killed him) Couldn't have been the smoke monster.....

2 - who told Locke he had to die - was it Ben???

Good lord I'm more confused now than last night.

Re: Lets Talk Lost...

Another random thought:

Does anyone think there is any significance to the order in which Jacob touched the losties throughout time?

First he saw Kate as a child...

When he crossed paths with Kate as a child in the general store paying for the stolen (NKOTB Chat Icon) lunch box, it seems that Jacob wanted to instill an idea in Kate that would have her never steal again. But this caused her to avoid punishment because Jacob paid for the lunch box.

Did she deserve mercy or should she have lived with the punishment of her actions and by "saving her" how did Jacob change her future??

Maybe by "saving her" he did her a disservice? We know she did steal again and worse!

Then he crosses paths with Sawyer...

He touched Sawyer just before the uncle/relative came to tell the boy to move on. The uncle made him promise never to finish the letter. Sawyer agreed. Did Jacob carry some of Kate's defiance and spread it to Sawyer? Was he trying to make sure that Sawyer carried that letter around as a reminder of anger and pain?

Jacob's actions must be deliberate and have some kind of meaning...

I definately think they were deliberate. I think the meaning hasnt' been made clear to the audience yet.

ALso, there must be some significance that Jacob visited Sawyer and Kate as children, but visited Ben, Jack, Sun and Jin as adults. WOnder what that means?

to answer this one -- 'John Locke' told Richard to tell John Locke that he had to die.
of course we know that it was the man in black in the first scene who hated Jacob inhabiting John's body telling him that.

See I'm not so sure I believe it's that cut and dry with the black/white good/evil connection.

If you really think about it Jacob is evil - in the biblical sense and in the show he's manipulative. So maybe Jacob is really a wolf in sheep's clothing and not really the "good" one here...

Conversely, the guy in black (who I'm referring to Easu) biblically did not start off as evil but was really fooled into doing what he did and as a result hatred grew for his brother Jacob thus creating an "evil" man.

I suppose the same thing could be said for both Widmore and Ben. They both had good intentions for the island - Widmore thought he was doing the right thing and Ben followed what Jacob told him to do (via Richard) like a dutiful soldier.

I see a parallel connection between Widmore and Ben and Jacob and the man in black...

Just another random thought...Sorry the nerd in me is on a roll!!! Chat Icon

I agree, I'm guessing there is some kind of relevance to Jacob visiting Kate and Sawyer as kids.

Actually, if you think about it the two he met as children wound up being the two who were in the most trouble with the law...

That is why I think Jacob might actually be the evil one.

If he wanted Kate to be a "good" person, why would he have let her get away with no punishment.

If he wanted Sawyer to not harbor hate & resentment, why would he encourage him to finish the letter?

Now I know everyone thinks he saved Sayid from getting hit by the car, but what if he planned it that way as well? If the Nadia (sp?) did not die, would he have gone to work for Ben and kill numerous people in the process?

I cant really find much meaning in the rest of the encounters but I may re-watch it to see what I missed.

I honestly believe the creators of the show are trying to make it look like he is the good entity, but if theres one thing I learned, its that nothing is as it seems with this show! Chat Icon

About the Sayid/Nadia thing. I think that Jacob DEFINITELY meant for Nadia to be hit by the car... I actually never even thought he was saving sayid.

HMMMM.

Also why would Jacob be so nasty to Bed?

Also I still havent figured out Richard. He seems good. But when I think of the way he is dedicated to Jacob for some reason "he sold his soul to the devil" comes to mind.

Yeah I never thought he was trying to save Sayid either actually if anything he kind of caused Nadia to die because they would have probably made it across the street if Jacob hadn't stopped Sayid. The only person he it seemed he truly did a favor for was Locke.

Wow, great finale! I couldn't comment until now because I watched it tonight.

I think maybe he visited Kate and Sawyer as kids because maybe their problems were rooted into their childhood. Kate's abusive father, Sawyer's parents dying.

Jack didn't have major issues until his marriage fell apart. Same with Sun and Jin. Locke didn't seek his father out until he was an adult and that is when the trouble began. Maybe they all didn't need Jacob until they were adults.

ETA: I think the ultimate function of Jacob was to affect their lives to get them on a path that would lead them to the island, or bring them back to the island (in the case of Sayid and Hurley)

Re: Lets Talk Lost...

A little late but here is my take on this...

So I think Jack was the cause of the plane crashing to begin with. He started the whole magnetic explosion and I think that was the cause of the airplane going down. I also think that the writers are leaning more of the whole "final destination theme" meaning you cannot change the past to alter the future.

I'm thinking that he visited everyone at the time he visited them because it was the "turning point" of each of their lives.

Kate stealing/going against the law
Sawyer seeking revenge
John in a wheelchair
Sun/Jin staring their lives together
Sayid's wife getting killed
Hurley...not sure but I don't thing he "fits" like the rest of them

And I LOVED the black/white inversion of the Lost signout at the end..

That's EXACTLY what I said to DH. He "sold his soul" therfore he got what he wanted..eternal youth (or something like that).

Re: Lets Talk Lost...

I loved everyone's theories!!!

It was a great finale (including Juliet). I felt SO bad for Sawyer but I am a Kate fan.

One thing no one mentioned was where is Claire? I dont think she is dead. And going with the smoke monster impersonation theory, the smoke monster can only be one person at a time and the first time we see Christian in Jacob's hut, Claire was there too.

That creeped me out BIG TIME when claire was in the hut acting all weird. I wonder what they are going to do about that. Especially since Kate told Claires mom she was going to get her daughter back or whatever when she left aaron with her.
