Ok so I'm re-watching the beginning now ( thank god for dvr) and a million ideas/questions are popping up

What if the weaving/loom Jacob is doing in the beginning is like God weaving the threads of these lives together - you know how everyone seems to have crossed each others pasts?

He catches a fish- symbolism for Christianity/Jesus?

He wears white- the other guy wears black.

Richard was always the go between for Jacob and Ben- bringing messages and lists of names- yet he never ages. Angel or Messenger of God perhaps?

Ok changing the theory after doing some research! My Bible study course in college is paying off

Jacob in the Bible is the brother of Esau who decieved his father Issac into thinking he was Esau ( the oldest) and therefore recieved his father's blessing to be in charge.
"Esau was heartbroken by the deception, and begged for his own blessing. Having made Jacob a ruler over his brothers, Isaac could only promise, "By your sword you shall live, but your brother you shall serve; yet it shall be that when you are aggrieved, you may cast off his yoke from upon your neck" (27:39-40).

Esau was filled with hatred toward Jacob for taking away both his birthright and his blessing. He vowed to himself to kill Jacob as soon as Isaac dies."- Wikipedia

Another interesting tidbit from the Bible:

Jacob then made a further move while Rachel was pregnant; near Bethlehem, Rachel went into labor and died as she gave birth to her second son, BENJAMIN(Jacob's twelfth son)


Bottom line- I'm just messed up in the head and have to wait until next year like everyone else but will go mad in the meantime

I think you're right.

Jacob and the guy in the beginning of the episode= God and the devil!!!!

Jacob was all about "you have a choice" while the guy questioned why Ben followed someone unseen (like questioning someone's faith in God)
The statue on the island held 2 ankhs which is the symbol for eternal life.
Jacob touched Locke after he fellout the window and it appeared he brought it back from the dead.
He knows alot of languages.

What do y'all think?

Sounds good to me! So now that Jacob is dead does that mean that evil has won?

Right Juliet might have undid everything but not sure how they make a whole season after that happened?

I need to watch it again. I am liking my God theory. But then that would go with the idea of pergatory in a way which I think the writers have dismissed.

And Locke sacraficed himself to "save" the others. Maybe we have the rolls reversed. Jacob was evil?

I love the white/black thing though.

Also.. what was the deal with the guitar. I am assuming it is Charlie's. Charlie was also brought back into the picture when Sun found his ring in Aaron's cradle.

Ok ok one more thing...

Someone mentioned the black/white theme. I LOVE that idea. Did you notice at the end the colors were reversed (instead of black with white LOST letters it was white with black LOST letters)

I can't believe it took me so long to figure out that the rebirthed Locke was an imposter - Of course! He's the black smoke monster!!!! We've seen since the second season that the black smoke can reform into a dead person - AND locke had disappeared when Ben was being beat up by his dead daughter!! It makes so much sense now - The smoke (the anti Jacob) tricked Richard into convincing the real Locke that he had to die to bring everyone back - so that he could convince Ben to kill Jacob.

I'm still totally confused, but thats as far as I've gotten!

Its funny - I used to be all obsessed with the Sawyer, Jack and Kate storyline in the 70s, but last night, I just wanted to see the Jacob, Locke and Richard group... Much more interesting story line imho...

OOOH, and I bet the black smoke is imitating as Jack's Dad too! That how locke convinced Jack to come back to the Island - he said "your dad says hello"

Can someone please help me with the people from the plane crash now... you know... "the good guys" They were the one carrying Locke's body. Who is that woman b/c remember she was all bandaged up and Jacob asked for her help. What was that about??

OMG... I was going to cry when Sawyer was holding onto Juliet. So sad. I really was liking Juliet and Sawyer a lot. I wish it was Kate. She's so annoying and plays with everyone's head too much. Ugh!

I really think the finale was excellent! I definitely think there is some good/evil type thing going on, but I'm thinking the big SHOCKER is that Jacob is evil.

All I know is that I had TEARS in my eyes when Ben asked him "What about me?". I LOVE Ben! He is shady and a liar, but there is something about his character I love! And he plays it so well!

I'm thinking IF Juliette did in fact wipe all this out, the next season will be them going on with their lives. I think they will focus on each person per episode like they originally did. BUT I think they will somehow remember bits and pieces and maybe in the finale something will happen with that.

Interesting theory regarding the smoke monster/Locke/and the dead on the island...

We know that the smoke monster can take the form of dead people. We saw it take the form of Alex. We may have seen it take the form of Eko's dead brother too. So let's just say that the smoke monster is what has been walking around as Christian Shepard and as John Locke too. What do all of those people have in common? Not only are they dead, but all of their bodies are on the island. Ben buried Alex somewhere. Yemi's body is in the old plane from what I remember. Locke's body was in the metal case. I assume Christian's body is somewhere on the island.

So maybe the smoke monster can only appear as people who are not only dead, but whose corpse is still on the island.

Now let's just say for the sake of argument that the true human form of the smoke monster is the guy in the black shirt (black smoke/black shirt?). Obviously smoke monster/black shirt cannot kill Jacob for some reason we don't know yet, or else he would have done it on the beach. And if you notice, smoke monster/fake Locke wasn't the one to kill Jacob. So because smoke monster can't kill Jacob directly, he had to find someone else to do it for him.

What does this have to do with Locke? We all know that only the Leader can request an audience with Jacob. So in order to get close enough to kill Jacob, the smoke monster would have to take the form of the current Leader of the Others. That's why Locke had to die. That's why his body had to come back to the island. The smoke monster needed Locke's corpse to be on the island in order to take his form and get a meeting with Jacob.

So why didn't the smoke monster just kill Locke in the first place? Probably another one of the 'rules'. Remember, Locke was confronted with the smoke monster earlier in the series, but escaped. Maybe it's another rule that the smoke monster couldn't kill the Leader directly.

Also, remember when Ben tried to summon the smoke monster to Dharmaville but it didn't show up? It didn't show up because it was too busy pretending to be Locke. Then in the basement of the temple, Fake Locke/smoke monster goes off to find rope, and the monster appears. Then smoke monster leaves, and Fake Locke is back.

As generic as it sounds, we've seen the real Locke and the smoke monster in the same place at the same time, but never Fake Locke and the smoke monster. Plus, it was Fake Locke/smoke monster that told Richard to tell the real Locke that he was going to have to die to complete his mission. Hell, Fake Christian/smoke monster told him the same thing.
