UPDATE: Ear infection/Tubes
My son has been getting ear infections since November - actually from Thanksgiving to Christmas he had one long one, then its been about 1 per month - doc and ENT don't seem concerned -
Any advice? Does anyone DC have tubes?
ETA: DS is 15 months, non-smoking house
5/14 - Guess who has another ear infection?

DD is 18 months and has been having them since December. My ENT said she was not a candidate for tubes just yet especially since it's spring and she should be getting sick less. We'll see if she stays ear infection free - this has been the longest run without one, about 3 weeks so far.

My son (just turned 2) had an ear infection every month from August until January, 6 consecutive months. Our ped receommnded seeing an ENT who said DS was a candidate for the tube surgery. We put it off for a couple days and landed ourselves back in the ER over that weekend w/ another double ear infection. That Monday I called the ENT and scheduled the surgery. He has the tubes put in on 2/2/09 and (knock on wood) no ear infections since!

Abby is 8 months old and has had 3 ear infections just having finished another antibiotic. She has not yet visited an ENT but she may very well be if she gets another one. As much as I hate the idea of her getting tubes - being put under an anesthetic - there is no way I wouldn't do it. Her hearing is very important and has a direct effect on her ability to learn and her balance. I'd never jeopardize that. My 5 year old nephew has them. He is fine.

The issue with tubes is if the fluid drains out of their ears when they are on the antibiotics. Does your DC still have fluid or are the ears totally clear? Did they do a hearing test to see if there is any hearing loss? My DS had ear infections constantly and they did tubes when he was 16 months old. He could never get rid of the fluid and he was suffering from hearing loss. He only had 2 ear infections since then (he is now 5 1/2).
I would wait and see how this summer goes and if the ear infections continue then I would demand they take some kind of action. I am at this point with my DD who never got ear infections in the first year, but has had a few this past year. Good luck
ETA: I have a fabulous ENT in Port Jeff if anyone needs a recommendation.

Last time we saw the real doc (not the NP) - for the diagnosis and re-check. He said there was still fluid in his ear but it was clear.
They have not done a hearing test. I think DS hears me - well, he has selective hearing - but he gets that from his dad... anyway... I don't like that he's been on so many antibiotics. My ped said that the ear infections should slow down with the warmer weather.
Also, DS doesn't talk yet - he's over 15 mos - he is fluent in babble. He is starting to say mamamammma and dadddaddada, we also think he is starting to say a few other words - but they aren't intelegible (sp)

Sorry to hijack, but I have a question about this too:
DS is 21 months and has his 10th ear infection now.
Doctor never said anything about seeing an ENT or getting tubes. Do you think I should ask them about it at our follow-up appointment??

I went ahead on my own and just went to see one. I didn't wait for my ped to suggest it. Luckily DD's hearing is fine, but she had had some fluid which as of last time was gone. Her pressure was still a little off - we go back next week for a follow up.
If she gets another one soon I am going to ask that she get tubes.
ETA - I would definitely go see one. 10 seems excessive to me ( but of course I am no doctor or an expert!)

Yes can you please post the dr in Pt. Jeff
My DS never had an ear infection - until he went to daycare. He started daycare at 7 months and has 4 ear infections in 7 weeks. The last one got him so sick that I pulled him out of the daycare center (even though it was really a good one).
ETA - he wasn't getting ear infections from daycare - he kept getting colds that left fluid in his ears.
