Vegetable Gardens

With all the sun yesterday I decided to get my butt in gear and cleaned out the boxes that we have and get them ready to plant. I spent about 8 hours just getting rid of the weeds and wound up with sunburn patches in weird areas.

I am trying out my self created topsy turvy.

These are peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes.

The closer square is strawberries which grow back every year. The second square are the herbs I planted (italian oregano, cilantro, rosemary, and basil). In the center are carrots, never tried to grow those before.

These are our green bean plants and chives.

So, who else wants to share their pics!

Re: Vegetable Gardens

tell me more about your strawberries - i can't get one to grow to a nice size - as soon as one spouts...some critter eats it

do you have a fence around yours? I think I might do that this year

Re: Vegetable Gardens

Honestly, if it was my house I wouldn't do strawberries. The ants and birds always eat them. I don't do too much to them though, I just let them grow. I think in the 3 years I've eaten 3 strawberries. I do remember growing up my parents had them and we always had strawberries. I don't know if they paid more attention to them.

So knowing my luck it will happen again!

I hear you on the strawberries I didnt realize how quick they spread and almost took out my garden! THen I was prepping the garden for this year and I saw strawberries growing I pulled them right out. THe are a PITA unless you have them contained in the box!!!

Let me know how that topsy turvy thing goes! Michelle wanted to try it out.

I cannot wait to go play in the dirt next weekend and get planting!

Let me know how the carrots come out that is one thing I havent tried!

Looks great Bonnie Jean!!!!

Re: Vegetable Gardens

I don't usually plant until end of May and then I have plants all summer and through early fall. I plant tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. I also have chives.

We did corn last year and they were really big. The ants got to them though so we never got to eat any. Chat Icon

Thanks!

Re: Vegetable Gardens

we only do herbs... and frankly, our herb garden looks Chat Icon right now.... so much overgrown wierd looking stuff Chat Icon And our mint (shockingly Chat Icon ) took over the universe. (I knew it would happen, but we love greek food and really wanted to grow some mint)

this year will be purple basil, rosemary, and oregano.... (we're avoiding chives... don't need another invasive herb Chat Icon)

your garden looks great!!!!!

THe invasive herbs I put in huge pots next to the garden. It is crazy how fast the mint can take over!

Re: Vegetable Gardens

Oh Marnie... it is so easy! I have no real talent and it is just working out! Just plant some things you would like and water them. DH used Miracle Gro last year every could of days. The garden was a hit. We had a bbq with a ton of stuff from it. Salsa made from the tomatoes and cilantro. Pesto sauce from the basil. Mango Chutney from the cilantro. You can do it. The ladies on here offer awesome support and advice! Even if you try it out for one year, you can always do seed next year!!!

Re: Vegetable Gardens

wow- that looks great.
I have a "garden" all in containers.
Looks like the basil didn't make it already- think it must've been all the rain.
oh well.
