How do you and DH split night time feedings???

Do you both get up, does mommy just do it or do you do shifts?

Just wondering.

Me and DH are doing shifts now since little RJ hates to sleep at night. So far its been working. We are still tired but at least we get a solid (kinda solid) 4 hours straight

DH never did the night feedings. He would get home late, eat and go to bed then get up at 4:30/5am to leave by 5:30. I never expected him to get up though because I am a SAHM and I felt like if I was really tired I could nap when the kids napped even with the 2 of them or I could lay on the couch while the kids played. My DH didn't have that option. For someone though my body got use to having 4-5 hours of interrupted sleep a night so I never had that feeling of being sleep deprived. On Saturdays and Sundays DH did/does wake up with the kids though so I can sleep a little later.

I bf'ed in the beginning so there was no splitting of nighttime feedings.

And by the time I switched to formula, DS STTN.

DH was one lucky *******!

i did all night time feedings with DD until i went back to work and even then i did a majority of the night feedings.. only when i was way to tired to do it I would wake dh to do it.

Wow, I must be lucky...DH even lets me go to bet early so I can get more sleep. But, I am the type of person that if I am completely sleep deprived I cant function. Plus, there is no napping for me in my house. My DD decided right before DC 2 was born to eliminate her nap.

Plus, my DH can function on little sleep.

shifts! It used to be that DH would do the midnight shift, and I would do the 4am and 7am shifts... he would take over again at 8am and I would nap before work.

DS's sleeping patterns have shifted... now DH does the 1am or 4am shift and I do the 7am shift. (DS wakes up sometime in the middle of the night... almost always only once)

Ok, no. DH did not split the night time feedings with me, even when I went back to work and he actually was on LODI, I still did them

Split nighttime feedings-whats that? I do them all-during the week my babysitter comes at 8 or so and on the weekends DH gets up with them so I can sleep in

I did them all as I BF and continued to do them when I went back to work. I will do the same this time around.

DH gets up at 5AM for work so it was unfair to have him do the 3AM feeding, so we did it this way...

I would go to sleep after DS's 7 or 8 bottle....can't remember what time that was....
DH would dream feed DS around 10 or so then go to sleep....I would get up in the middle of the night for the 3 or 4 feeding....

This way we each got a decent stretch of sleep....

I was BFing, so he couldn't at first. Now I pump & bottle feed, but I still get up to feed & pump overnight. I can't complain though because I'm a SAHM.

DH and I did shifts.

The first shift was until 2. If DD got up before 2AM the person on duty would get her. When she got up after 2, the other was on duty.

This worked out great for us because we always got at least 5 hours of sleep each.

When DD gave up the night feedings it was magical for all of us.

DS was both BF and FF, never BF exclusively bc he was tongue tied and couldnt latch most of the time.

Anyway, when DS was a newborn before STTN. He was up about every 3 hours to feed at night. Since I was on Mat leave and DH had to get up and go to work, this is what we did......

8-12 - DHs shift while I went to bed, usually like a 9 and 12 feeding.
3am feeding on was me, and I nursed him. Usually 3am and 6am.

I'm BFing so I do all of the nighttime feedings. DH will take DS when I'm done feeding him though.

When DS was about 0-2 mos old, we would:

DH feed him at 10-11PM
Me-I would feed him at 3-4AM and then at 7AM.


DH only once did a middle of the night feeding. DH would never wake up. And I'm a light sleeper so I got the raw end of the stick. DH did pick up the slack throughout the day though

We had a plan.. I would feed her (BFing in the beginning) around 9, he would feed her with a bottle around 12... then I would do the early mornings since he was back at work..

well... that lasted for about 2 days..

Even though we are pumping and bottle feedings, I still do ALL the feedings at night... but she doesnt wake up for a 12 oclock feeding.. she usually sleeps from 10-3:30/4ish..... and then is up around 7.. so I do all the feedings!

DH was home with me the first 5 weeks. We worked in shifts, trading off feedings. He would get a majority of the night feedings because he was up anyway and he let me sleep.

we are spltting nighttime feedings since we both work

we tried alternating nights but then i was dead tired durring the day- and slept the day away while dh did the WHOLE day outside meals- 10am to 10pm

When I was on maternity leave I pretty much did all the night time feedings, but Kaydyn slept for a good stretch from the beginning from about 7am-11am so I would get a good stretch to sleep in the morning when she slept.

Once I went back to work I would get up most nights and DH would get up 1 or 2 times a week MAX. I was more able to cope with the lack of sleep than he was.

Weeks 1-2 - DD did not really sleep.

I was also not able to BF in the beginning, so:

I would feed her a bottle at 9ish then go to bed. DH would stay up 10pm-3:00am with her and feed her usually around midnight or 1am. (he was also on a 2 week paternity leave so it worked for us). I would get up and be with her from 3am until she would decide to sleep at 8am!

When DH went back to work, it was a NIGHTMARE for me.

Week 3 - 6 week hired a baby nurse M-F because I just couldn't function, so she did the middle of the night feedings. On Friday and Saturdays, DH would do the 2am-3am feeding.

After 6 weeks when the nurse left for good, I did the middle of the night feedings and DH would do the 6am feeding, except I would get up in the middle of the night to pump when he fed her. And then on the weekends DH would do the middle of the night feedings.

By 8 weeks she started sleeping through the night and DH would get up with her at 6am to feed her. She now sleeps until 7am and he still does that feeding.

It goes without saying that if she gets up for any reason in the middle of the night during the week, that I take care of it since DH has to get up for work. On the weekends, she is all his!
