How to clean my oven even though it has a self-clean option

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean their oven easily?
I live in an apartment when I ran the self-clean feature last year it SMELLED so bad. We opened all the windows & door to the balcony and I heard talking in the hallway. When I opened the door, there was a fireman...someone got scared and called the fire department. I shut the door so fast & put all of the fans on.

SO using this feature isn't an option for me.

I called Kitchen Aid and they said to use a sponge and soapy water but it doesn't get off any burnt on food.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
TIA

I'm pretty sure Easy Off makes an oven cleaner that's safe for self cleaning ovens.

I think that if you use any oven cleaner it will be fine. Read the label on the cleaner to make sure it works on your oven.

i used cheap pathmark no toxic smell stuff and sprayed it then did a completely wipe down. It get's most of the stuff off. I still do the self clean every two months on a good day when you can open windows, the wipe down is once every three weeks unless we don't use the oven often which is never the case.

I only used the self-clean once, but I use easy-off to clean the oven.

I went online last night to find a "green" cleaning solution...and found out that I can try a paste of baking soda.
I took out the bottom part of the oven to try it out. Left it on all night and in the morning most of burnt on stuff washed right off.

I am going to get a spray bottle and make a solution tonight.
It worked well and it's non-toxic.

Still going to get the easy-off for back up! Thanks

Get your mother to come over and do it, mine always does when she comes to visit.

Oh wait, we have the same mother....maybe if you give her a grandchild and move out of the country she will clean your oven for you!
