spinoff to developmental checklist....

I'm worred about DS not rolling over. He'll be 7 mo next week.

It's so odd. He can sit on the couch for long periods, can even reach for toys while seated... kicks up a storm, grabs his feet, shoves stuff in his mouth.... but no rolling over Chat Icon

He can even support some of his weight in a standing position (although we have to still hold him up... he can't lean on something and stand independently yet).

when he sleeps, he rotates in bed like clock hands Chat Icon but never ever rolls onto his belly. if we put him on his belly, he arches his back, or if a small pillow is under his arms, liesurely rests there and plays. When will he finally roll Chat Icon

(he was due for a ped visit last week, but we had to delay it becuse he had a headcold and was due for more shots. new ped appt is in about 10 days)

Chase rolls from belly to back, and has only rolled once from back to belly...I think if he is doing all those other things, there is nothing to worry about Chat Icon

Re: spinoff to developmental checklist....

At 11 months, I am still asking this question. DD does not want to roll or crawl.

She does however love to stand more than anything is is figuring out how to pick her feet up. She will be walking before she rolls.

Don't sweat it. Talk to your ped and if the doctor isn't concerned, and as long as the other milestones are met, it shouldn't be a concern.

ETA: DD was exactly like your son at 7 months. Doing the same exact things.

Re: spinoff to developmental checklist....

DS is 10.5 months and really only started rolling onto his tummy after 8 or so months. He hates tummy time and will not voluntarily go there. I stopped using a sleep sack at night and soon after that he has started rolling onto his tummy much more. He still doesn't crawl. At 8 months, the ped said that if he didn't roll by 10 months we may want to consider EI. Now he's rolling but still not getting himself to a sitting position on his own. The ped didn't seem concerned at 10 month visit because he is meeting all other milestones - standing, pulling himself up, etc.

DS didn't roll over until 11 months....I wouldn't worry - I have been told over and over that milestone markers are just that, markers. Believe me when I tell you that DS has not met one mileston at the "given" age and he is fine.

hmmm, wonder if the sleep sack is a contributing factor, sort of like the walker has been shown to delay walking Chat Icon

That's what I was thinking. He's never like tummy time, so I think that is a big thing too. Is your DS in a sleep sack?

I wouldn't worry about the sleep sack b/c he isn't in it all day. He will have plenty of opportunity thorughout the day to roll. DS was rolling front to back very early on - like a few weeks old and back to front by 4 months I think and he was in his sleep sack from 3 months on I think.

But, at the same time, a cousin who is close age didn't roll until like 11 months, right b/f starting to crawl and is a perfectly normal almost 2 year old now - so don't stress too much - ask your ped for guidance
