Reupholstering a couch
Hi,
Has anyone gotten this done? My in-laws gave us their old couch - the frame is in good shape but I wanted to look into getting it reupholstered.
If you have any information, reccomendations or prices I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

I don't know how much it costs, but there is an upholstery place on 110 just slightly north of Montauk highway in Amityville village- they've been there forever.

not sure how much it is- but just wanted to mention we got a couch cover from bbb- in faux-suede and it was $100- just in case the re-upolstering is too much $$

Re: Reupholstering a couch
Thanks so much for your responses!
I will price it out first (i'll try the place in Amityville) - I'm afraid it might be too expensive right now. So I'll definitely keep the cover idea in mind.

Re: Reupholstering a couch
It is pretty expensive to re-upholster a couch - I think my mom had a quote for one about 5 years ago and they wanted $2300 for it. Granted, it was a down couch - but it was relatively small and didn't have much detail.
She went to CLS in Bohemia...

Re: Reupholstering a couch
I looked into it once and it is very costly. I had a couch I'd paid over $3000 for and after about 12 years the fabric was showing wear. I don't recall exactly what they estimated but it was well over $1000 and could have been closer to $2000. The one thing I do remember is that it was going to require something like 16 yard of fabric to to the sofa and cushions. Between the cost of all that fabric, and the labor plus having to do some work on the cushions it wasn't worth the cost. I later had the cusions restuffed for a few hundred dollars and put it in the basement with a slipcover.

Washable slip covers are great with kids and pets. Well worth the small investment.

Re: Reupholstering a couch
Thanks everyone - I appreciate the information. It sounds like it would be expensive. I went to a fabric store and asked about restuffing the cushions and it was like $15 a piece. I think I'll do that and a slipcover.
