Re: Maybe a Stupid Question.. What is a VBAC Birth??
There is a risk for uterine rupture. Not everyone is a canidate for VBAC. I think it has to do with the type of section you had?? Not 100% sure.

vaginal birth after c-section - You'd want to talk to your doctor about risks because they don't let everyone have a vbac.

There are several risks - but the % of risk varies by person, amount of time between births, why you had the 1st section, etc.
Some of the risks are - uterine rupture, or uterine collapse. Either one puts you at risk for a hysterectomy and can cause permanent severe brain damage or death for the baby.

Re: Maybe a Stupid Question.. What is a VBAC Birth??
Speaking as someone who just did this, it's not all THAT scary. It's something that definately is a personal choice. VBACs carry risks, but so does having a repeat c-section. It's all up to which set of risks you are more willing to assume. For me, after weighing the pros & cons of both, I decided that a VBAC was very worth the small risks, but I can see where someone else may feel differently. My son is 4 days old & while my bottom is slightly sore, I have been up & around all day & feeling pretty great where after my c-section, I couldn't even stand up off the couch without assistance at this point (but again, everyone recovers differently). While the risks are scary to think about, I will never, ever regret that I did it.
The risk of uterine rupture is generally less than 1%. In most cases of rupture, the rupture is actually more of a gentle tearing of the scar than the uterine explosion that the word rupture implies. Even in the case of rupture, the risks of matneral or fetal death are quite small. I believe the risk of hysterectomy is about the same as the risk with a c-section. It upsets me that many doctors drill the risks of VBAC into women's heads, but they say nothing about the risks of choosing a RCS.

Re: Maybe a Stupid Question.. What is a VBAC Birth??
When I first heard it (not read it), thought it was V-Back... like a vaginal birth on your back! And I was like well what other options were there? The V-Sit, V-Stand and the V-doggy style?!
Good thing I didn't tell anyone I was planning on a VBAC and they'd be like, isn't this your first baby???
