BF question? I think I have a low supply
I BF about every 2-3 hrs and give DS either one or two bottles a day of formula. Sometimes he is not satisfied after nursing. He still seems hungry. I just started Pumping and got only 4oz total, 2oz from each side. Today I pumped 20 min after nursing and hardly got anything, not even 1oz. DS is gaining a good amount of weight (7lbs 11oz at birth and is now 9lbs 8oz at 5 weeks). I really don't know what to think! I'm getting so frustrated about BF. Is there anything I can do to increase my supply?

Re: BF question? I think I have a low supply
Supplementing with formula may have affected your supply. When you give him bottles, are you pumping at that time? If not, you should start pumping or BF instead of giving formula. Try to get DC on the breast as much as possible. The more you BF, the more should be able to produce.
Are you drinking enough water? You should try to drink a large glass of water before, during or after each BFing session. You can also try eating oatmeal and drinking Mother's Milk Tea. Good luck!

Re: BF question? I think I have a low supply
The only things I can add to what the PP said relate to pumping. First, pumping is not measure of what your DC is getting, and second at 5 weeks getting 2 oz from each side in one session is a HUGE accomplishment. To help build supply pump @ 1 hour after each feeding. Initially you will get very little, but as time goes on it will increase. Good luck!!!

wow, 4 oz is pretty good! The most I've ever gotten total is 5 oz, but usually I am lucky if I get 3 oz total each session. I find that drinking water helps a lot.

Your supply sounds fine but giving formula only hurts your supply.

Re: BF question? I think I have a low supply
4 oz total is good..at 5 weeks I was only pumping 3 oz total every 2-3 hours.
More Milk Plus helped me boost my supply (the liquid, not the pills). So did pumping after every feeding, even if nothing came out, It stimulates more production. And when DS went thru his 6 week growth spurt, my supply shot up because he fed every hour. HTH.

I pump about the same amount and my midwife said that's very good.
I never supplement since that can affect your supply.

Just to clarify, if you are supplementing but STILL PUMPING at that time it willnot affect your supply

Re: BF question? I think I have a low supply
I was once told that with breast feeding, it's demand and supply, so as your child needs to eat more, your body will produce more milk. I only exclusively pumped, so that's all I can go on, but it seemed the more I pumped, the more I produced, so the more you BF, the more you will produce. Also make sure you're drinking a lot of water
