Lindenhurst Peeps come in
My boyfriend and I are interested in potentially purchasing a house and Lindenhurst is one of the areas we are strongly considering. I'd like to know the good/bad things about this area....not too familiar with the area. Thanks so much for any input you could give

Re: Lindenhurst Peeps come in
Very community oriented. there are always free things for the kids to do... INCLUDING SUMMER CAMP! (i am trying to get on the list to do that) There are fairs with rides about 3 times per year and one craft fair. Lindy holds the BEST Firetruck races in the beginning of june. you have to go there at least that one day!! Taxes are reasonable compared to other towns.
I prefer the Village areas or areas south of Sunrise. I would stay closer to wellwood, there are some undesirable areas in copaigue that are close by.
There are ALL different types of houses here. WHich i really like. it's not cookie-cutter like Levittown used to be (where i grew up... where i will go back to eventually- that wasn't a knock L'towners).
The railroad is close by, shopping... oh all the Supermarkets are all around, Kmart, target, home depot, 110... everything is close, that's my favorite thing. i have my choice of where i can cut coupons and save the most!!
WE love it here. We have nice neighbors around us and hard-working people, which i appreciate!!
I'd be here for life if DH & my jobs weren't so far WEST!
Anymore info... FM me!
Good luck!

Re: Lindenhurst Peeps come in
I have lived in Lindenhurst all my life (except for 7 months in Brooklyn) and I LOVE it here. Dh and I currently rent in Lindenhurst but Copagiue(sp) area which I do admit is not that amazing. We are trying to get a house in the village of lindenhurst because that is where my parents/friends all live and its near it all. As stated above we have tons of fairs, programs, entertainment. Basically everything! It is self contained (Waldbaums in town, local/noncorp owned coffee shop, restaurants, train station, hair salons, schools) everything is walking distance if near the town. North Lindenhurst is okay, not the greatest depending how north you are but def. more affordable and still near shopping center near Sunrise Hwy.
I just hope we can do it!

Re: Lindenhurst Peeps come in
We rented here for 2 years (So. of Montauk/Venetian Shores)b4 buying our house last year in the village. We LOVE it. It is a real old-school, homey type of town w/ parades down Wellwood for Little League, memorial day & more. It seems everyone knows everyone (people seem to grow up here & not leave).
It's very family-oriented & they have great things like Santa/hot chocolate in the town square at Christmas time; free concerts at the gazebo in the summer & great programs at the library.
I'd try to stick to the village or Ventian Shores (although you'd have to worry about flood insurance there & some other places too).
fm me w/ any q's.

Re: Lindenhurst Peeps come in
We just bought a house here and my brother and his wife just bought a house around the block from us. We love it here. We looked at a few houses north of sunrise but liked south better. the village seems real nice. Except for the MAJOR renovations we both are doing to our houses, so far we like it.

Re: Lindenhurst Peeps come in
I grew up there and my parents just sold their house in the village a couple months ago. They lived a couple blocks from the high school.
I'd stay south of sunrise...I miss being so close to the beaches and venetian shores..and stores/shopping/highways are so convenient.

Re: Lindenhurst Peeps come in
I grew up there and still live there now (grew up south of Montauk Hwy off of wellwood in the Lighthouse Point Area and currently live in the venetian shores neighborhood).
I like it there...no complaints- except that I hope wellwood avenue sees a resurgance soon- there are alot of vacant storefronts just north of hoffman.
Good Luck- I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have.

Re: Lindenhurst Peeps come in
its important to eat, drink shop local anywhere you go. DH and vowed to skip all chains now only go to local bars, coffee house, restaurants that are family owned operated in the town if at all possible. We have too good of a village to throw it away.

Re: Lindenhurst Peeps come in
My grandparents lived there for years, we loved it. They lived south of Montauk by the Marina (they had a boat docked there). I loved the old fashioned things about it-parades, Santa going around in a truck, the boating community.
