Wow, I can't believe that no one considered what I said. Should we stop giving disability checks to people with lung cancer if they got it from smoking or if they may have? Where do we draw the line? Does everyone really look only at the surface story as all there is?

i would really need to hear more about this story to decide... but on its face, the story seems WAY too ridiculous to be as cut-and-dried as the news article makes it seem.

I got the same thing out of it -- they have health issues related to obesity that has them out on disability. Not that they are on disability because they are obese.

I just wrote a whole essay on social exclusion of vulnerable people like this who live in 2009's class sytem in Britain, however I lost it.
This article can not be taken at face value, these people face a whole host of socio-economic problems, and obesity is fast becoming a disease of poverty here in Britain. People living in these council estates have limited access to fresh fruit & veg and they suffer greatly from it.
Anyway, it was a brilliant piece I wrote, but its now gone!!! Ah well
eta - they get £22,000 a year in benefits, thats WAY more than my salary, and £22K is what Microsoft are paying their new graduates, so think about that. For a family of 4, its not much though. Also, I just noticed they live in Blackburn, which is not that far from me.
