Is it soooo bad to be honest about your kids?
I love my kids dearly, don't get me wrong but they can drive me NUTS-lol!! I have a friend whom ALWAYS has to say outloud "I just love spending time with my kids" or "My kids are just the most adorable things, I can't stand it" or "I miss my kids so much when they are gone" or "I couldn't imagine not taking my kids xxxx". Her friends are the same way. Everything has to be perfect. They just have to be seen as the "perfect" moms. They love their kids dearly--yada yada.
Am I the only mom whose kids fight, who get on your nerves from talking all day, who needs a break (even though I do work fulltime-- )???

No. I'd bet that your friend is the same one who never comlains about her DH either. Some people just like to keep their less-than-perfectness private.
Ironically, your post comes on the heels of my "mom's night out" last night with some of the mom's from the daycare.
While I love DD and DH, I need a break sometimes- from both of them. I need my girlfriend time, I need my couple time and I also need my alone by myself time. That doesn't take away how much I love spending time wtih my family. But as a working mom, if I don't do something for myself every once in a while, I burn out and am not the best mom I can be.

YES!!! Her dh is the best thing that has ever happened to her. He works 25 jobs but still helps with the kids and cleans the house and does the laundry...yada yada....--

Re: Is it soooo bad to be honest about your kids?
I think there are people who gloss over things because they're afraid of looking less than perfect and people who let it all hang out. I also think there are people who look on the bright side of things versus the negative side.
I love being with my kids too AND I miss them when they're gone. I've also had the urge when running an errand to the store without them...to head down I-95 & have calculated how long it would take to get to the Keys. Then I remember, I'd need to come back because I'd miss them.
Maybe your friend is an optimist?

Re: Is it soooo bad to be honest about your kids?
I tell everyone who listens that we call Eliza: El Diablo and Eliza the Hun because she is a BEAST. I also tell people I worry she's going to wind up like "Doris" in "A League of Their Own" because she's such a brute. She doesn't sleep and I throw mini temper tantrums outside her door at 4 am when she's waking up to eat for the third time.
And not to be outdone, but Madelyn is a total drama queen and I detest when she hasn't napped. I've often wondered if investing in a shock collar would curb the shrieking (her new favorite way to get attention). I kid, I kid.....
And you should see the looks from my coworkers when I admit that I consider my work days to really be my "days off." I am so sad on Friday afternoons....
But- in the end, it's worth it because they're so darn cute when they do sleep.
Whew- I feel better.

Re: Is it soooo bad to be honest about your kids?
I'm honest.. and possible schizo.
I love being with my kids. I love spending time with them and hanging with them. The few times I vacationed without them I called a lot and talked about them more.
If you were to ask me RIGHT now - after the wonderful hugs and kisses I got this morning from my sleepy eyed men.. knowing I won't see them until almost 7pm tonight... I'll tell you that they are perfect and precious and I miss them horribly.
If you ask me Sunday night.. after a weekend spent mediating fights, 10 arguments about what they have to eat, 4 complaints about bath time, 20 time outs, 2 broken toys, countless wheedling, random screaming, endless whining and ceaseless begging.. well the story will absolutely be different. On Sunday night I will beg for a couples only vacation for 2 weeks.
And 1.5 days into the vacation I'll be telling everyone how much I miss my kids and how wonderful tehy are!

Re: Is it soooo bad to be honest about your kids?
I have said on more than one occasion that I would love to throw DS out the window.
Or explain how I have a fantasy of smacking him right in the face while he's being bratty and/or throwing a tantrum
thankfully, I have free will.
but... for the most part... there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of kissing his cheeks and those big beautiful green eyes. then again, he's on the verge of telling me to go eff myself, so I'll tell you how I feel about him when THAT happens.

Re: Is it soooo bad to be honest about your kids?
I'm VERY honest about it ALL. Sometimes I wanna lose my mind. I hate people who try to make themselves feel better by saying those things , or impress people or who knows what it is, but it is NOT all roses and candy and I think people should be real about it.

Re: Is it soooo bad to be honest about your kids?
i'm wondering what exactly bothers you about what your friend is saying?
is it what she's actually saying, or is it that you don't think she's being honest in what she's saying?
cause if she was saying that her kids never drove her crazy and i believed she was being straight with me, i wouldn't find it annoying... but if i thought she was sugar-coating things to make herself and her life appear perfect, that would drive me up a wall. i tend to write those people off, they drive me NUTS...
(oh, and as much as i love my son, i SO crave private time and he can definitely get on my last nerve. especially now, with all the tantrums )

I think it is just the way her and her other friends have to go on facebook and myspace and just gush over their kids at every single chance. Hey...I LOVE to brag about my kids all the time and probably drive people nuts at work with my stories BUT....I think it is overkill sometimes. My friend did a thing on facebook and the ENTIRE note was how wonderful her dh and kids were. It just seemed too much and that she couldn't say anything else.

Uhm, no you aren't alone. I'm a SAHM, and there are days when I am counting the minutes till DH walks in the door and I can get some help with DS.
I think your friend's life cannot possibly be that rosy. She may love her children dearly, but they must get on her last nerve sometimes. She's probably forgetting the bad times and focusing on the good.

Yes, I love my son. I love being with my son all the time. I really do. I do things with him all the time. We are always together. I love my DH. He is "perfect" for me. I cannot find a fault about him. And I do mean it!
But at 8pm, I am glad when DS goes to bed.
