Credit Card Registry?

Does anyone have a service like this?

AMEX offers a service that you register all of your cards, bank accounts...etc.. and if fraud happens of you lose your wallet, they handle all of the details of getting everything canceled and reissued and also takes care of your credit by putting an alert on with the credit agencies.

I'm thinking about doing this..it's a nominal fee for the amount of protection it gives.

I'm sure other credit card companies have something like this as well.

Re: Credit Card Registry?

I personally wouldn't pay for this because if this were to happen, I wouldn't trust that they would get everything done.

I would still be calling every bank, going through the motions, etc. I would still have to do other things like get a new drivers licence.

I am not responsible for fradulant charges on my credit cards so if my wallet was lost, the crook can go charge away. It wouldn't bother me.

Re: Credit Card Registry?

i think you could do this yourself- you just make copies of all your ids & backs of charge cards and keep them either at home in a safe place or in a safety deposit box if you have one.

make sure to do the back of your credit cards- thats the place that has the contact info to stop the transactions- they will be able to look up your account number with no issues

i think that you have to notify most companies within 24 hours or you could be responsible, so I dont think I would count on a company to do that- like the pp said

Re: Credit Card Registry?

AMEX notifies DMV and gets your license back. They also contact credit agencies so no one can open up credit cards under your ss.

I've been investigating it with them and talking to them directly.

It's $10 a month I think and everything is taken care of.

Whether I trust a financial company to do this is another thing.

I know they have automated systems in place to contact all of my credit card companies. Much more efficient than me doing it.

Fraud protection is on all of our cards but you still have to call them and report it.

Just tossing it around.

eta: I'm just thinking about the panic I would be in and how much time and energy it would take to contact everyone to get everything stopped. It's a nightmare. They also get everything reissued asap.

That's not the case. Sometimes it may take you a few days to realize the card is missing.

It's under Visa's and Mastercard's terms and conditions that you are not responsible for fradulant transactions, regardless of when they happen.

You might be thinking of cellphone companies, that typically want to know right away if you lose your phone (to remove fradulant phone calls).

yes, My HSBC card has this. I think I pay $6 a month and it covers me and my DH, all of our cards and bank accounts. I don't usually do things like that but I did figure it's only $6 a month - I spend more then that on coffee in a week. It can't hurt...
