Those worried about Pacifier weaning...
I need to tell you how EASY it has been for us and say there is HOPE.
I really thought it would be pure torture.
Noah loved his, couldnt ride in the car w/o it ( so I thought ) etc etc.
Well We just took it away, we said its only for sleeping ( and he has only asked for it ONCE to sleep so far at night) and he is FINE. All day. The first 2 days he asked for it a LOT ( about 40 or more times...it was his first word BTW  ) and then each day since its been less.
I 'd say we are about a week in and it has been nothing but easy and I hope it is the same for the rest of you afraid to bite the bullet.

mine DS is only 16 months and normally he only uses when i put him to sleep but he is teething soooo bad that he constantly wants it... i dont know what i would do with out it....
i was planning on weanning him off of it but i think i am going to wait for when he stops teething...

i was planning on weanning him off of it but i think i am going to wait for when he stops teething...
My son is teething badly NOW too and chews on it all the time ( well did) but it was seriously starting to affect his speech therapy( he has a speech delay) , so we had no choice but to do it now during Teething and so far so good. I really believed it would be a NIGHTMARE.

I'm so glad you posted this!!
Thomas is 22 months and doesn't have it all day at daycare (since 18 months), but the second he gets home would BEG for it!! And all weekend he would have that thing almost constantly. DH was home with him last week and has sucessfully weaned him of daytime noonies!!! He asks occasionally, but is pretty easily distracted (which is very surprising to me because he usually doesn't distract easily). I tried to not give it to him last night, but he cried and cried, noonie, hold it, noonie, hold it. I gave it to him, because I couldn't take depriving him of his comfort even at bedtime when he is so good without it during the day now. Are you going to keep giving it to Noah at night? I figured I could live with nighttime noonies as long as he's completely rid of daytime ones! I could have let him cry and eventually he probably would have wen to sleep, but I just didn't have the heart. What do you think?

Our Speech therapist suggested making it knwon its only for sleeping and giving it some time if that works.
Meaning if he successfully transitions to sleeping only with it, then we have some time before cutting it out completly..so yes that is our plan, but we got lucky he has only asked for it two nights out of the last few...
The first day I just kept ignoring him....and really re-directing his attention when he would try to find one.

Oh it WILL be torture foR me..I can feel it.
However, I am thrilled that this is going awesome for you. I am so proud of Noah!
Maybe there is some hope for us....I will keep you posted on when I attempt it. I'm thinking the summer is when I'm gonna get rid of it.

The weaning from the car and other activities was relatively easy at about nine months to a year for Bella...it's the naps and nightime that was H-A-R-D...
Glad yours went smoothly so far though...

I am not looking forward to performing the task myself: my daughter LOVES her paci and will nto sleep without it. She will be 2 in April and I really feel that it needs to go.
This whole thing is a complete mistery to me because my son gave up the paci on his own when he was 9 months pld. Just didn't want to have anything to do with it anymore.... The second time I was not that lucky!
OY!
ETS: I made it a strict rule about 8 months ago that pacifier is ONLY for sleeping, so at least that was something!

i am dreading this...DD gets it in the car and at nap and bed times...she knows to take it out when she gets out of the car and when she gets up from sleeping, but shes definatly looking around for it when those times come
shes almost 14 months...not sure when i should start weaning her......

Same here. I actually gave up, and gave it back to Ryan for naps and bedtime. Sleep is more important to me than taking the paci away.

Glad its going well for you.
We stopped it cold turkey & she was using it more & more in the end b/c she was teething pretty bad. We stopped it one day & the first 3 days were rough, especially nap time, but then she's been fine. She was 17 months.

I'm so happy to read this! DD is only 13 months so I don't plan to wean her just yet but she loves her pacifier so much I really think she may be still using it in college.
