PEDIATRICIAN IN BELLMORE - OPPENHEIMER and MARCHITELLI
This has probably been asked before, but does anyone use this group of pediatricians on Newbridge Road in Bellmore? Good reviews? Bad reviews?

Im thinking about calling them as well i just need to see if the are affliated with winthrop. My friend just gave birth and uses him. She says he is great and calls to check in and everything

oh, cool!!! I've heard good things about them, too.. a few of my neighbors use them.
Why Winthrop? Is that an especially good hospital for kids? Where is Winthrop - I'm in Merrick...

If I am not mistaken, this is the practice my boss goes to with her kids. I believe they are affiliated with Winthrop. If it is the same group, she raves about them.

AND Do you think it matters that I will be delivering out east and not be able to have the ped see the baby at the hospital after he/she is born? I know they're definitely not affiliated with South Side Hospital in Bay Shore.

LOL....I just IMed my boss, but she is not responding so I did a search with the insurance directory for our job. It looks like they are affiliated with LIJNSM..... I know this is the practice she goes to, b/c I recognize all the Dr's names. As soon as I get her to respond I'll update on this post.

Winthrop is just where i happen to be delivering. MY friend that uses them delievered at NSLIJ. Ill have to call them in am and see if they do interviews or what

It does not matter, but you will most likely just use the Ped on staff at the hospital, and you need to make sure that once you have the Ped's info that you will be using, that the hosptial forward all records promptly as you will have to go to your first newborn visit the week you come home with DC.
(I did not have a ped picked yet when I had DS as he was early & I was on bedrest & could not interview anyone....it worked out fine.)

I use them and like them a lot. Sometimes it can be a little crazy in the office but on a whole I can only say good things. Good luck.

been using them for almost 6 years now. and 2 kids later.
i like them. very much like Oppenheimer. (we only saw him for my son's 1st year because of some medical issues.) He's a happy type, everything is always wonderful with him. even when its not its wonderful. so you learn to translate how wonderful everything is. but he's a feel good type of doc, you walk out happy with him.
really like Sheila Korn too. she's more down to earth, matter of fact, but if you want a nice straight answer she is good.
dr. bob, some love, some hate... (well thats true for all of them i guess) but he will talk to you like you are 4... some people are fine with this since the explanations are always easy to understand, i prefer to be spoken to like i am at least 6 or 8. so we don't see him too often.
dr. andy.... (otherwise known as dr. eye candy) very good looking. lots of the girls love him. he's good, quiet, but nice. for some reason we just never run into him when we are there.
there is a new doc, haven't met them yet. and there are a couple of NP's. one i won't see because i don't like some of what she has told me in the past. (lecturing on when i should wean my son.... things like that) other NP is ok. although i usually ask to see one of hte docs for major appts. (you can ask to see whoever you want when you get there, you just might wait longer for that doc)
office is a zoo. you will wait. don't expect to walk in and get done in 30 minutes. some days you are in the waiting room for over an hour. the place is packed. parking can be a pain when the office is really crowded.
but the office staff is all nice, friendly.
all in all, if i wasn't happy with them, we would have changed along time ago. but are there things i wish would change, yes of course. especially starting with the wait times and parking.
HTH everyone looking for a doc in the area.

Thank you SO much for your detailed reply - this is a HUGE help... I'm going to call them in a few hours to see which ins they take, which hospitals they are affiliated with AND if I can stop in a chat with them.
Do you think it's pushy to want to meet with them before the baby is born? I'm definitely a Type A personality chic, but I don't want to appear overly obsessive. What do you think?

Okay here is my 2 cents..
I went to Opphenheimer as a kid. Loved him. Really nice. But I always had bronchitis. Like 2-3 times a year. He just treated each case. Well then Mom's insurance changed and we had to switch. This doctor was like... umm... you have asthma. Not excersice induced, but asthmatic bronchitis. SO he started treated my asthma... and guess what?? I only got bronchitis once a year after that. So that really annoyed my mom and now, myself. I just feel that he really missed the ball and I suffered for a long time for no reason!
Also, He has got to be really old now! I would prefer someone a little younger.

we use bellmore-merrick pediatrics (a little more north on newbridge rd) Lewis Jassey/Jonathan Jassey/Mari Emitt.
when we were interviewing peds. we went to both but decided on Bellmore-Merrick... for a few reasons.. the practice is a little smaller, so its not always hectic, they are open on sundays, and the drs are all fabulous.

We used them up until DS's first year and then there was a problem and we left.
I can tell you that they do have rights at LIJ if you are looking to deliver there.

Thank you for all of your responses!!! I didn't get a chance to talk to them last week, but I will try tomorrow and let you know how it goes. One thing I hope is, that they are flexible with breaking up immunizations.

with my 1st, i followed their schedule. with my second , i did one shot at a time until she was over a year old. dr. korn was fine with it, and i just went in a few extra visits to try to keep somewhat up to date with shots.
not sure if they will split the mmr though. i know 5 years ago they would't. but that was 5 years ago.

I use them for my dd, my sister recommended them to me, she uses for her 3 children. Very happy with all the doctors and PAs I have met so far.
eta: MMR we just did in Dec. you can either do a single shot but they can not guarantee what they will have in when you dc goes each time for.. Like they had the measles the day I took dd but not the other 2.. so next month I would have had to hope they had either the rubella or mumps vaccine... We ended up just doing the complete shot, B/c with baby #2 coming next month.. i couldnt keep going back and forth with both babies. It will be 2 weeks from tomorrow when she had the shot and all is good!! I was happy I did it.
eta: we started using them officially when dd was 5m old.. we switched from another peds. When I told them I only do 2 vacs at a time, they said thats what they do and they are flexible with what you want.. if I wanted just 1 at time I could do that too. They did what I wanted to do, not what they wanted.
