BTDT Mommies: Pumping Milk

Hi- I just became a mommy on 12/28 and I'm trying to do pumping and FF. How much milk were you getting when your milk first came in? I'm worried b/c I'm only getting 1 oz. from both breasts each time I pump (every 3 hours). What were your experiences with pumping?

1oz sounds about right since baby is only about a week old. The more you pump the milk will increase b/c then youll breast will relize the baby wants more. I would try and put baby on breast mostly at beginning this may help with the milk production.

1 oz sounds right. I started off that way and worked up to 2 oz after a couple of weeks.

Congratulations!!!!

It's completely normal.

I remember being soooo intimidated by the 'big' bottles to fill with the pump. I would pump an ounce and feel completely defeated. That changed within a few weeks. And by 2 months the 5oz bottles were too small.

I agree with the above poster about putting the baby on the breast. I really think i helps the milk come in faster and more abundant. The first time I pumped was in the hospital and I got 2.5ozs. from both breasts combined but I don't know if that's normal.

Re: BTDT Mommies: Pumping Milk

Are you pumping after BF or are you solely pumping?

i was only getting 1 oz from both for a while. it gradually went to 2, then 3. the most I ever pumped was 4 oz and that wasn't often. I always supplemented with formula

good Lu\ck!

Re: BTDT Mommies: Pumping Milk

Thanks for the advice. I can't get him to latch, so I am solely pumping.
