19 Months old and Very Few Gifts

Am I a really bad mommy? I bought him

Elmo Live
LeapFrog Magnets
Blocks
Books
Puzzles
Broom Set (he loves to sweep)

I had a huge list but I delegated most if not all of it to family/friends who asked me what to buy him.

I guess I was trying to be economical since he wont really even know...but now I feel badChat Icon

Your list looks like mine. So many people were asking me what to get him that I ran out of things for myself.

I figure at this age he won't know, and he still will have plenty of presents under the tree. And we are tight on space!

Re: 19 Months old and Very Few Gifts

We're in the same boat! I was very good this year with DD's gifts and just bought her a few little things...nothing big.

We're trying to save and just didn't have the $$ to buy a lot of "stuff" she probably wouldn't even bother with anyway! Chat Icon

Just remember...whether you buy them 2 or 20 gifts...they don't know the difference Chat Icon

Definitely think that's a great list. He honestly will be happy with whatever you give him. I remember when Nate was that age, he barely opened more than 2 gifts. He was so happy to play with them he forgot about the others, so we ended up saving them for his birthday.

Re: 19 Months old and Very Few Gifts

I didnt get DS anything "big" either.

I got him a ride on Tonka truck toy, puzzles, books, some little trucks and cars and that's about it. He is 21 mo. It's not like he asked for anything.

And like you, I have alot of family that are getting him stuff. My parents bought him a train table Chat Icon

No, I don't think you are a bad Mom at all.Chat Icon Chat Icon

We aren't getting a ton of gifts for DS either. He is getting:

Fisher Price Farm Wagon
Little Tikes Piano
Books
Little Tikes Pull and Ride Wagon
Puzzles

He's 12 months. We have been spending a lot lately, and I really want to watch our spending overall. I think what you listed is fine, and it's good for kids to learn early that they won't always have big blowout gifts IMO, or get everything they want.

Re: 19 Months old and Very Few Gifts

We went minimal too.

We're having the whole family over our house on the 27th and I know everyone is going to bring him something.

My list is almost exactly like yours.

Re: 19 Months old and Very Few Gifts

They dont know any better and as you said the relatives are giving too. We bought most of his "toys" ourselves b/c relatives dont give him toys, but we didnt go too nuts. I think the really BIG lists come when they get older and can name specific products and stuff they want.

That is PLENTY for a 19 month old. hope its FUN!

Re: 19 Months old and Very Few Gifts

I think that is plenty. I delegated everything, so I have a lot of 'smaller' gifts - little people tubes, sesame street tubes, small playskool tonka trucks, smaller CAT trucks, coloring book & crayons, books, blocks, PJ's ----

DS is 15 months and we also didn't go crazy with the gifts, although I feel like he is going to get more than enough for his age...he's getting into a lot of physical activities so we got him:

My First Basketball Hoop and a ball
Foldable tent with attachable tunnels
My First Crayola Art set
Wood blocks
Puzzle set
Books
Bath toys and books
Toy storage (shelves and bins)
Geox Sneakers
Clothes

Looks JUST like my list. I did add a few little things this weekend (Target was having a 2 for $7 sale on their little puzzles and stuff like that)

But my parents get him a lot, he has been getting boxes from other family members all week, there will be plenty here, just like at your houseChat Icon

Jen - you are too funny! Something tells me that Christopher isn't deprived at all!!! HAHAHA! They don't even know what they are getting at this age - save all the gifts for when they can actually understand and beg for things! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: 19 Months old and Very Few Gifts

That's fine.... I'll be honest, we didn't get Cailen that many gifts, but I still think it's too many - they can't even process them all. Last night, because it was the first night of Hannukah, I gave him 3 things - an Ernie doll, a plastic duck (he is obsessed with them), and a ball.

He couldn't even focus on any of them - he wound up just taking the ball and wlaking away from the other 2 toys.

Quantity isn't a big deal until they are older, IMO.... He is going to be completely overwhelmed between every night of Hannukah, Xmas eve, and Xmas!!!!!
