Must have items for Costa Rica?

What are some must have items for a trip to Costa Rica (ie. bug spray)? I'm going in February.

Re: Must have items for Costa Rica?

ooh, I have a list somewhere. My DH did a lot of research when we went last year. Bug spray is good, but you are going during the dry season, so the bugs shouldn't be so bad. I'll check with my husband, I'm pretty sure he still has that list somewhere.

Re: Must have items for Costa Rica?

We were there in the rainy season and the bugs were HORRIBLE. Seriously, I wouldn't even go outside without it on. Hopefully it will be better in the dry season.

You don't need much. DH and I got by for two weeks with 2 carry ons.

Plan to dress in layers. I brought a few tanks, 2 long sleeve t-shirts, and my Northface rain jacket. I also brought two pairs of convertible pants since the weather changes during the course of the day and at each destination, 2 bathing suits and 2 "dinner" outfits (although everywhere is casual - I just did not want to wear the same thing I wore hiking). I also brought hiking sneakers and flip flops. We brought our emergency kit (we travel alot and have a pre-packed bag of tylenol, neosporin, band aids, antibiotics, etc), some cosmetics and bug spray.

Have a great time!

Re: Must have items for Costa Rica?

This was our list - we went during rainy season, but only had one day of rain. And like KvsGrl we packed light, we were gone for 7 days and I only took a carry on!

Rain ponchos (we found these great Rick Steves travel ponchos that were very compact on Amazon)

Bug spray - We brought lots of it!

Binoculars

Sunglasses

Flashlight! (so glad we did this! walking back to our hotel at night after dinner, it was always so dark)

First Aid Kit - included solocane for getting sunburnt, which I did even with the sunscreen!

Hat (baseball cap will do)

Shorts

Long lightweight pants for hiking

2 bathing suits

I found it to get a little chilly at night, and had wished I brought a lightweight jacket.

A couple of skirts (more like those broom skirts..nothing fancy, but I would wear them to dinner)

Comfortable shoes for hiking

Flip Flops/Sandals

LOTS and LOTS of $1 bills! If you think you have enough, most likely you don't!
