GD Girls....How did you do this Thanksgiving?
How did you girls do with the Carb Loaded Holiday?
I ate so many carbs. Mash Potatoes, yams, cornbread stuffing, greenbean casserole, cranberry sauce, fruit, pie, icecream, turkey, and roast beef. I ate a good amount of food. And I checked my levels 2hours later..........................113!!!! I don't get it. I was prepared to see a much larger number.
The funny thing is that I bought a new Kashi cereal and ate 3/4 cup with Milk this morning and 2hr later my level was 119. FROM A BOWL of CEREAL!!! On average my levels after breakfast is 80

if you had enough turkey and roast beef to load the protein up, the fiber in the veggies... it can keep your numbers lower. plus enjoying a good meal, and not stressing can also keep them lower. (And for whatever its worth, i could always eat ice cream, with minimal problems, the protein in dairy is fairly high and can sometimes counteract the carb load)

as for cereal, morning is always the hardest time of day to control numbers. its called the dawn effect (or something like that) and the carb count between the cereal and the milk might be too much. i could never eat cereal in the morning. lunch or dinner was ok, but not in the am. was it the kashi that is ultra high protein? i was ok with that in the beginning, went downhill after a few months. (I did the diet for 7 full months) try straight protein... turkey sandwhich, etc... use bread high in fiber and protein, low in carbs. (wonder whole grain white is great) not breakfast food, but keeps the numbers good. LOL

Re: GD Girls....How did you do this Thanksgiving?
Same for me! I went into today thinking it would be one day of havoc. I had the right breakfast and even a small, but appropriate, lunch.
I brought whole wheat crackers with me knowing there'd be cheese and crackers before dinner, so I ate a lot of cheese beforehand.
For dinner I had: turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, 1/2 sl of cranberry bread
The rest of the veggies being served were creamy and starchy.
2 hours after I ate, my levels were only 112! I couldn't believe it.
I ate dessert, and test again 2 hours later, and then it was up to 131, but still not drastic considering dessert consisted of cake & apple pie a la mode.

I am going to try the turkey sandwich for breakfast today since I have left overs. In general, I do not like breakfast foods except for cereal. So, a turkey sandwich sounds good right now.

That's great! It must be the protein! I kinda wish I had a little more pie!

Re: GD Girls....How did you do this Thanksgiving?
I didn't do as great as you ladies did, but my numbers weren't as horrible as I thought they would be. My blood sugar was higher after breakfast (WW rye toast with cottage cheese - 130!), but my numbers the rest of the day were around the 120 range. Still high, but not as bad as I expected.
I also have a cold, so I'm wondering if that has any effect on anything? Anyone know anything about that? I do have my 30 week check up on Monday so I'm going to ask the Dr.
My morning blood levels still show to be high... not overly high, but higher than they should be. I also didnt' have any snack last night since I fell asleep by 8:30!

After about 10 days of diet and testing, I had a f/u with a high risk dr today, who said that your activity level, stress, etc can play a role in your levels, not just what you eat.
My morning levels are around 90, which he thought were not too drastically high. He is giving me another 2 weeks to see if I can get those down, and then moving to meds. He said that the odds were aginst me as levels tend to get higher the deeper into pregnancy you are.
The night snacks are really important, so try and get them in!

any kind of illness can affect blood sugar. usually making it rise. stress on the body (illness, surgery, emotional etc) can all make blood sugar higher. watch your numbers, if they start to come down when you feel better, you'll know it was just the cold. if they aren't coming down, then its probably just your body going higher as you progress. the farther along you are, the higher your numbers typically go.

not good. totally cheated. loved every second of it too! mmmmm cranberry salad! i was just diagnosed (2nd time) and haven't even started checking my sugar levels yet (need a new battery for my glucose monitor). but now it's time to get on track. i was very very good with the diet my first pregnancy & still needed insulin so we'll see what happens.
