Today show - buying homes now!
Barbara Corcoran is saying to look for houses that "aren't perfect" and you will get a great deal. If you are buying and / or lookiing for a deal in this market... watch.
they give you great ideas about what to do with "problems" in the house ....
and where / when to NOT buy a house!
- across from a school - house on a garbage route - house with oil tank in the ground in backyard
it was a great segment.

Confused, arent we all on garbage routes? I mean the garbage trucks come to my house 3x a week....
The school thing is personal preference, I k now someone directly across from an elementary school and they love it.
But the oil tank is a definate! I would never buy a house with one!

I don't get the garbage route one. How else would you get rid of your garbage if you aren't on garbage route?

But that should be more like "Don't buy within a mile of a dump." or something. If you are along the back side of the dump, you may never see a single garbage truck (other than the one picking up your garbage), but if you are downwind in the summer....

I'm across from a school it doesn't bother me since I'm at work when they're in the schoolyard! and if my kids go there one day it would be super convenient!
too bad I missed this show, I love Barbara Corcoran! I read her column in the Daily News every Friday.

I totally agree with the school one. I live a block away from a h.s. right now and those little bratty teens come up my block to cut class and smoke pot not to mention the traffic at the begining and end of the school day, I don't even want to leave the house during those times!

Yes! this is exactly what they meant (i believe) specifically b/c of the smell of the garbage truck and the noise.
I was very surprised that they didn't mention anything about not buying on main roads or anything...

I'm also surprised it did not say anything about being close to a main road/highway. I know that was a turn off for us. Meanwhile, we are across from a grade school and it does not bother us at all. I rather an open field then houses across the street. Guess it's all personal choice. I do agree with the oil tank in the backyard though!
