Do your kids like the Pool or Ocean?
We just got back from a great vacation in St John, but DS despised the water!! I tried to make it fun and put him in gradually but he hated it!!
He is 18 months--is this a phase? Any ways I could help him?

DD has always been a water rat...no fear, nothing...wants to go head 1st in. LOVEs the water!
ETA - she's 17 months

My girls have loved the water since birth (1 and 2 years old). They scream when its time to get out.

Literally--I think the people on the beach thought I was a child abuser with the way he was screaming

My daugher doesnt really like the pool...and she takes awhile to warm up to the beach. But i think that will change as she gets older.
truthfully...i'm happy that my kids are cautious of the water

DD is 15 months and is a fish. She's been in SafTSwim since she was about 7 months. We have a hard time keeping her above water in the tub, let alone in a pool. She likes to lay on her back and to blow bubbles.
She prefers the pools as she is a little leery of waves but will still go into the ocean water. She's more clingy in the ocean or at a bay beach In a pool she'd paddle away if she could.

some days complete water bug other days can't be bothered and plays in ankle deep water for hours.
He is very cautious...he will play much more freely with me then he ever will with leo.
the kid I watch is a water maniac. he scares me...no fear at all.

Same here. DS is 15 months and I used to teach at Saf-T-Swim, so that's how I teach him in the pool. He loves the pool and is a bit leary of the waves in the ocean as well. We have to get these two together!

We live a mile from the beach and have access to a pool so DD loves both. She is currently taking swimming lessons at the Y and loves them.
BUT my niece who's parents are both huge swimmers/surfers hates the water. She only started going in recently this past summer at 20 months.
It took a long time for her to take to it. I thought her mom was going to lose it since she swims an average of 15 hrs a week!

It could just be a phase, or just not his thing. My son loves the built-in pool, hates the kiddie pool, likes the bath, and is so/so about the shower.
Could it be the sand?
