What is your opinion on toy guns?
I always said when I had kids I wouldn't want them playing with toy guns. Rylan is still so young so it really isn't an issue yet but I was just wondering if i'm in the minority. I don't know if i'll feel different when he's older but as of now I would rather him not.
I guess I should add that i'm more thinking on the lines of me or anyone else buying them for him. If we were on a playdate or something like that I can't see myself saying no you can't play with that.

DS will have a cowboy pistol and a pirate sword. I think it has to be used in context.
DS will never just play with fake weapons if not as a role play/costume situation.

You mean like war guns, right? Not like water guns?
I agree with you, I wouldn't tell Christopher not to play with someone's at their house, but I wouldn't buy them either.
Do they sell toy guns?

Re: What is your opinion on toy guns?
As far as I can help it, my kids will NEVER have a TOY gun. But, DH is an avid hunter and does own some guns. I am sure once DS is old enough he will teach him the sport aspect and have him appreciate a gun, but it's not for play in my opinion.
ETA: growing up, we were not even allowed to have the Nintendo Duck Hunt gun in our house! I have had to learn a lot from DH

I agree with you.
Also I wanted to add that I find it interesting how many parents would limit what their child wathes on tv as far as sexual content is concerned but would not think twice about violence on tv. I am speaking more along the lines of a toddler.

Re: What is your opinion on toy guns?
DC can make a "gun" out of anything. You don't have to buy a pre-made one. DS loves to take his lego-type blocks and make guns. He'll take straws and pretend. Pretty much anything can be used as a gun or a sword (or the infamous gun-sword).
I think it's important to teach them about what real guns do (age appropriate, of course), and that real guns are very dangerous.
It's impossible to keep toy guns out of their hands, because even their hands can be used as toy guns.....

I totally agree but I feel like as much as you teach them will a child totally understand the consequences of real guns?
I just saw Bowling For Columbine the other day and was so upset about the story of the 6 year old boy shooting the 6 year old girl.

My Dad does sport clay shooting so I m sure DS will learn that. Toy guns? I guess in play context I am not against them. My brothers & I am sure DH all played with toy guns and non are violent or murderers! JMO.

I'm not worried about him becoming violent or a murderer...that never even crossed my mind. I'm more scared by the stories of accidental shootings. As much as you teach a child that guns are dangerous you never know what they would do if they ever came across one....not that I think he ever will.

Re: What is your opinion on toy guns?
I dont like them. Kids get expelled from school just making the gesture with their fingers. No good comes from guns of any kind.
