Yes Jen, a lot of our regular companies have either cancelled or scaled back big time......sux for us....
Our isn't cancelled, but we're a small company so we're going to dinner and out to a lounge or something of that nature.....

I read that MTV cancelled theirs---my DH used to work there and it was always a big deal at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

The company I just started working for hasnt.. they have a pretty big one from what I understand at the Woodbury Country Club.

honestly I love christmas but I am hoping ours is cancelled too. its usually pretty boring but we have to go or it looks bad.

Some of my friends have their parties cancelled as well.  Companies are trying to cut costs every way they can.

I heard that 25% of companies are canceling their parties.
we will still have ours b/c WE pay for it. always have (holiday parties are not in the taxpayer budget  )
we usually have two,
one for my division that is really nice we collect a small amount (usually bet. 7-10 bucks) or accept food donations. and then have it over lunch.
the other one is SDNY...we invite other agencies, judges etc and the attorney's pay for the whole thing.
support staff is free, but if you want to bring a date, you pay $50.
that one is at the Fed building. on top floor. beautiful views of the city...alcohol, dj, catered.
again. completely paid for by the attorneys we work with.
Perhaps some of you can offer to organize pot lucks for your companies. it's not swank, but it's still a celebration.
dh's firm usually has a nice party. not sure if theirs is still on.

We actually have grown from last year so we will have even more people, but we are a small company with 14 employees

I was thinking ours was going to be cancelled because its probably going to be very costly- but its not cancelled! In fact, we just got an email the other day confirming the date and time- and also saying it will NOT be cancelled!

I don't think ours will be.
The last time things were bad here
(2001), we cut back but didn't cancel & things aren't as bad here yet as they were then. Things are more likely to slow down next year.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I always thought Holiday parties were silly. I would rather them take the money spent and split it up as a bonus than attend a party with people I work with.

ITA!!!
I dug around and found out that ours is still happening. And the reason was that "the economy has everyone down, let's not lower morale even more"
Uh hello, save the money on the party (the food and drinks usually s*ck anyway)
We get a $100 Amex GC every year, and we're probably not even getting that. Save the money on the party and give us a little bonus, that'll surely raise morale.

Our party is still on. I can't go because I have tickets to a show that night. I am so mad I have to miss it the party is always in really nice restaurant that I would otherwise never be in .
