Retail Interview Attire
Ok people who work in retail--what should I wear to an interview for a position at an Ann Taylor outlet? Something non-suit professional (i.e. slacks or skirt, blouse and heels?)? Is that too much? Not enough?
Any help is appreciated! TIA!

I would wear a suit but that is just me. It's the most professional looking unless you are interviewing in a creative field. And they sell them so its not like you would look out of place. If anything they'll be impressed.

I was thinking that too, since they sell professional clothing it would be normal to wear it....

Re: Retail Interview Attire
My sister worked at Anne Taylor and she wore dress slacks, heels and a button down shirt. I know, she was in college at the time and had to borrow my work clothes.

Re: Retail Interview Attire
Either skirt or pant suit OR dressed/tailored pants with shirt.
I prefer the more professional look personally. It never goes wrong unless you are applying for a modern cutting edge hair colorist job where "creativity" is expected.

Re: Retail Interview Attire
I worked at Crate and Barrel during the holiday season one year and wore black pants with a button down shirt and sweater. I was over-dressed compared to others.
I would say you can turn it down one notch from a suit unless you are applying for something on 5th Ave or in a ritzy shopping location.

I think that's the look I'm going to go for--this is an outlet Ann Taylor in NJ--not the city or anything. I think nice pants, heels, and a blouse or nice sweater will be the winner!
Thanks ladies!!
