toilet bowl seat: Does it bother you when....

guests leave it up.

Thankfully my DH puts it down, but if my FIL comes over one more time and it's up, I am going to scream. I don't know how he will manage when we put the child protection latches on them.
I think I might have to put my DH on seat patrol if he won't tell him to put it down.

I don't know why it bothers me so much. Chat Icon

Thankfully, my husband always puts it down so we don't have that problem.

Child protection locks - really?? I never heard of that for a toilet bowl.

Re: toilet bowl seat: Does it bother you when....

It bothers me, too. I hate having the seat up. One, we have two DC that I don't want playing/falling in there. Two, I have a dog that I don't want to drink out of there. Three, I really don't like the look of an open toilet in the bathroom.

All of us at our house keep it down (DS lets it drop from almost the top, but we'll work on that later.... Chat Icon ). I think MIL and SIL leave it up, though.... WOMEN! Chat Icon

They've been around for a long time. It keeps DC from getting into the toilet, but is simple enough for adults to move the arm to the side.

Re: toilet bowl seat: Does it bother you when....

I have the opposite problem.
My husband not only puts the seat down, he CLOSES the LID.
So one night- I get up and stumble to the bathroom half asleep to tinkle. I didn't bother to turn the light on and
in my half out of it state and the darkness, I plopped myself down and ended up sitting right on the cover.
I was like W T F?
Thank God I realized it before I started to pee! Chat Icon

Re: toilet bowl seat: Does it bother you when....

OK, I just realized that everyone else was referring to the seat ring, and I was referring to the lid.... I hate it when guests leave the lid up, and SIL and MIL leave the lid up, not the seat.

The lid should always be down unless it's in use.

Re: toilet bowl seat: Does it bother you when....

We put everything down in my house... it helps when you flush to have the lid down to not spread germs.

So, when someone leaves the lid up and the seat up-- it drives me crazy. Something about the toilet seat being up just feels so unsanitary to me-- I don't know why.

My DH doesn't put it down either - it irritates me MORE when we have company b/c for some reason I feel like it's 'trashy', but whatever, there are more important things in life - I choose my battles.

Re: toilet bowl seat: Does it bother you when....

This drives me CRAZY.

When DH and I first moved in with eachother, I said the very last thing I want to do is see the seat up....especially if it's the middle of the night and I fall in the bowl.....ooooooohhhhh that get's under my skin.

He learned so quickly, but then anytime a guy comes over, I feel like their wives didn't ask the same of their DH's. I find that wierd. Why would you want the seat up?

anyway....yes it bothers me Chat Icon

As someone who does not ask her DH to put the seat down, here is my reasoning:

It's not that I want the seat up. I just feel that however you look at it, someone has to move the seat. If I made him put the seat down every time, he would be the one who would constantly have to put the seat up and down and I would never have to touch it. If I don't ask him, then we both have to deal with the seat. No big deal to me! Plus, I choose my battles and this is one that is not worth the headache.

Based on what you said, do I now have to worry that other wives are judging me because my DH doesn't put the seat down???

I went over to a friend's house and DH used the bathroom and didn't put the seat down. My friend, at the time Chat Icon, made a big deal about it. At first I was embarrassed, then I just thought it was rude. Why would she purposely embarrass me and DH?

DH puts it down most of the time, and if he leaves it up, I don't notice or it just doesn't bother me. Like you said, choose your battles.

If a guest left it up I would be a little grossed out.
