If you gained a lot of weight...
Did you gain a lot because of your eating habits or do some people gain more than others?
I seem to be gaining a decent amount, should I be more strict with what I eat?

Re: If you gained a lot of weight...
At nearly 31 weeks I've gone from 96 to 123 lbs. for a total weight gain of 27 lbs. My doctor has not commented once about it.
It's perfectly natural to gain 25-35 lbs. during a pregnancy and even encouraged if you started out skinny.
As long as you're not loading up on bad carbs, fatty food, etc. you'll be fine. Take your vitamins and let your body dictate how much it needs.

Re: If you gained a lot of weight...
I had gained only about 25lbs my whole pregnancy and then around week 34 I started gaining a TON of weight due to water retention. I had SEVERE edema from weeks 34 until I delivered her at 39 weeks and in that time gained about 40lbs in water weight. My diet had NOT changed at all as I had gestational diabetes and had to watch everything I ate. The good news is that in the first 3 weeks after giving birth I'm down 56lbs. I'm just a few lbs. away from my pre-pregnancy weight now. THANK GOD!!!!!

ITA...everyone is different! I did not gain much weight during my pregnancy and was very concerned at the beginning...I just continued to eat healthy and go with it. I was also diagnosed with Hypoglycemia, which made me have to carefully watch my diet even more...no sweets and more protein and I had to eat every three hours (no less) or I became sick and lightheaded.
Turns out my son looks to be a porker upon his arrival!!

Re: If you gained a lot of weight...
I started out at 110 and am up to 136 at 22.5 weeks.
My dr is not concerned.
I am eating more, but that is because I'm hungry.
Dr says my body needed it!

Re: If you gained a lot of weight...
I guess my main concern is not really the weight gain, it's the change in my diet...
I have always tried to eat healthy and practice moderation. With pregnancy, though, many of the foods I used to eat don't appeal to me as much. I didn't have any morning sickness, but I have not been able to eat many vegetables...they bother me and give me indigestion....
Now I'm getting heartburrn. Honestly, carbs have been my most appealing food this whole pregnancy. Is that going to cause problems for me or the baby?

I feel the same way. I am a solid protein and veggie eater. These days veggies don't sit well with me and neither does a lot of the proteins I'm used to eating.
All I think about is bread, pasta, bagels and popcorn!!!
I know for my body, this = weight gain, no matter how moderate I am with it

I could have written this myself, word for word...I ate so many salads before I was pregnant...now, I would KILL for a bagel.

The only thing I could really tolerate in the first trimester was carbs. I wouldn't worry about your weight gain unless your doctor says something.
Everyone gains differently. Some people eat healthy and exercise and still gain 50+ pounds. Others eat whatever they want and may not gain much. Your body will gain what it needs to.

Re: If you gained a lot of weight...
Glad to see I am not the only one who feels best eating carbs....
I guess I'm just worried that by eating more carbs, I will...
1) Blow up and become unhealthy (especially with all the talk of GD)
and
2) make the baby so big that I will have a hard time getting him/her out
I'm a big worrier I guess....

Re: If you gained a lot of weight...
With my first pregnancy, I tried to eat healthy & I still gained about 35lbs. I was think to begin with & my body just needed the weight. My doctor actually said that I was doing great weight wise. My daughter was 7lb11oz at birth, so normal size, & I lost pretty much all of the weight I put on by the time she was 6 weeks old.
