Question about giving wedding gifts

I am invited to a wedding on a date that I can't go as I will have family/in-law obligations on the date it's occurring (thanksgiving weekend). I did attend the bridal shower where I gave 2 gifts from the bridal registry. If I am not going to the wedding (already sent the "unable to attend" RSVP card) am I still obligated to give another wedding gift?

Re: Question about giving wedding gifts

I dont think you are obligated to give a gift if you don't attend, but it's a nice gesture, especially if you are close. I'd guess since you attended the shower you are probably close, and in that case I would give a gift.

Doesn't have to be as much as you would normally give if you attend, but I would absolutely send a card with a nice message about how you wish you could be there, and if possible some kind of gift (even if it's a small token item)

Re: Question about giving wedding gifts

I found this in weddingclipart.com

DO send a wedding gift, even if you are not planning to attend the wedding. RSVP as soon as possible, and send your gift with the RSVP. It doesn't have to be large or expensive. By sending a gift you acknowledge the joyous occasion.

Re: Question about giving wedding gifts

I usually got gifts from the "no" people, and I send a gift if I can't attend - usually $100 ........

But I don't think you HAVE to do anything -

I always send a gift, and it's the same gift whether or not I attend.

Re: Question about giving wedding gifts

I would send a gift.

I always send a gift when I RSVP no.

For the "No's" I rec'd - we were sent everything from checks to place settings. The average gift was about 100-150 dollars. To play it safe - if I were you - I would send a place setting or a check for $100.

Hope that helps.

Re: Question about giving wedding gifts

I would send a gift if it's someone you're close to, which it sounds like you are since you went to the shower. However, we only received 3 gifts from the people who couldn't come to our wedding. Two gifts were on the smaller side and one was larger.

Re: Question about giving wedding gifts

Almost all of the people who RSVP'd no to my wedding sent presents... big and small.
I always send a gift even if it's a small gesture.

Re: Question about giving wedding gifts

You are not obligated but its a good gesture. We didnt get gifts from everyone who didnt come. If you do opt to send a gift, you could probably get away with sending a little something smaller too.
