are you supposed to give the baby a bath everyday?
i know as a newborn, they only get sponge bathes till the umbillical cord falls off, but after that, how often do you bathe the baby?
everyday or every other day?

My doctor suggested every other day or about 3 times a week...he feels their skin is too delicate to bath too much...sometimes we would do it every day if it was hot or a particularly messy day, but we still usually follow the every other day rule for a bath, but clean up with a wet washcloth each evening before pjs and in the morning before getting up.

I was told every other day at the soonest..
Johnson and Johnsons website has info as do plenty other sites .. ivillage/babychannel..etc.
Baby's skin is too delicate for repeated washes, especially with soap so they don't recommend you do that very often.

Mys sister bathed my nephew every day as part of his nightime routine to help him sleep. She would only use soap every other day and would cover himin baby oil inthe water and then massage him with lotion afterwards. His skin was always super soft and hydrated.
He had such a good bedtime routine by 8 weeks we will do the same

Doctors encourage doing it every other day to a few times a week, or, as needed, if the baby has soiled himself too much...
Sponge baths will do if the umbilical stump is still attached. Make sure to just gradualy expose the parts that need to be washed and not the entire body as they get cold easily.

My sister did this too (she's also a pediatrician). The nights they had to skip his bath for whatever reason he would have screaming fits. He absolutely loved having his nighttime bath.

when DD was a newborn, i always thought she was smelly, i would give her 2 baths a day, her skin was so dry.

I gave my baby a bath every other day.
Bathing too much can dry out their skin.
