Crib Conversion Set
I am figuring out what to do about this.... The guy at the store said 90% of his customers DO NOT get the conversion set... I know you run the risk of it not being available, but how many of you got it?

Re: Crib Conversion Set
We are getting it - just because the furniture that we are looking at is not inexpensive. It is good quality that will defenitely last. And I think you are also paying more for a crib that can convert partly because it can convert.
If they don't have the kit when I need it in five years or so(which is not unlikely), then the crib/bed is useless.

Re: Crib Conversion Set
I'm contemplating getting it! The furniture we're getting is pretty expensive so I want to get my use out of it BUT we do plan on using this furniture for future babies so by then we might not want to convert it! Not sure what to do!!

Re: Crib Conversion Set
We did get the toddler rail, however not the full conversion kit for full size.
If you don't have room to store, I would pass on both. You can always get a toddler rail at any of the baby stores. In addition if it is a convertible crib you can always use the headboard with a metal bed frame if necessary. I also figured by the time we go to use it we may be using the crib for baby #2 and/or may have no desire to use the crib itself as a full size bed.
I would roll the dice.

Re: Crib Conversion Set
I don't plan on converting the crib, since I hope to be having my second one by the time the first one is 2-3yrs old. I will just buy a toddler bed right away, and use the crib for the baby.
I also get sick of things real quick, and would want to buy the kids a whole new bedroom set they can grow up with.

Re: Crib Conversion Set
I didn't get it for DS's crib thinking I could just go and order it 2 years later. The manufacturer was around for a long time. Well I found out I was PG with #2 when DS was 6.5 months old. A few months pass and we decided to use the same brand. Guess what..they closed shop. I am going to try and just use the headboard. If not, then I have a very expensive crib . With DD's set the conversion kit was actually part of the crib. So I have everything I need for her bed in my basement.

Re: Crib Conversion Set
We got the conversion kit - most of the people we know who got a convertible got the kit. The crib was expensive enough I didn't want to chance not being able to get the kit down the road. It was worth the cost of getting at the same time to us. Esp with the fact that the stores are always changing their cribs and you don't know if it will still be sold anymore.
Our first crib was a pali and although Behr's still sells pali - they don't carry (but can still get since pali still sells it) our old crib (which we bought in Jan of 2007) it might have been a pain to get. Our crib was one of the more popular ones that year too

ITA. DH explained to me that the converted crib would fit on any boxspring/frame and that the kits are a waste of money.
That said, we are keeping DD in her convertable crib and bought ANOTHER convertable for baby #2.

Re: Crib Conversion Set
Yes. We are ordering the conversion for the full size bed. The cribs are not inexpensive and are a style that should last a long time. When they are ready to come out of the cribs, we will convert to the full bed and get toddler rails for the sides.

I didn't. I knew he would go into a different toddler bed and then a twin.
