Yes it's been done before-but delivery room-who will be ther?
I was on the phone with MIL last night. Let me preface this by saying that I like my MIL-she has been great to me and evry generous throughout the years.
Anyway we were on the phone talking about delivery. It is still up in the air whether I am having v-birth or c-section. So she says, I wonder if they will let anyone else in the room with you. I say, like who? She says Me! I say Ummm I don't think I want anyone there but me and Mike I'm sorry(I said this really nicely and was totally caught off guard)
So after we got off the phone I said to DH wow that got sprung on me-had you talked to your Mom about that? He said no.
Then he says It's totally up to you you know but I think it would be a great gift for your Mom and mine to see that.  Yeah well my gifts include Amex gift cards and candles not a backstage pass to view my hoo ha!
I am sorry but I just do not want anyone there in the room. I want to be with my DH if I am in pain, I might b!tch slap someone if they annoy me! I just want it to be him and I. But now I feel like the bad guy. I KNOW I do not want anyone there. I tried to give my Dh and example and i said what if you were having hemorroid surgery(bad example) but there is really no similar circumstance. What do you think-who will be with you?

Only DH will be with me. IMO, this is something that should be shared between just the two of us (and a room full of medical professionals!).
All of the "intimacy" of conceiving was taken away from us, that we want this moment to be just between us.

Its a personal choice......
I'm having a homebirth, right now we are inviting my mother, my sister and my MIL (had DH as a homebeirth). I am actually sending a little invitatino with some information and "guidelines" about the birth. If at any moment I am uncomfortable and want privacy I will ask them to step into another room. My mom was surprised that I didn't want it to just be DH and I. I don't know, I guess since its at home, I feel more comfortabel being around people. Also, they can help out during labor wiht keeping hte irthing tub warm, laundry or anything else we made to help the midwives out since they know my house.
The most importatnt thing is that YOU are comfortable and in an enviroment where you can concentrate on the task at hand!

Just make sure your nurses know only Dh is supposed to go in there, they will take care of 'looking like the bad guy' kicking anyone else out.

Sorry, but anyone else who assumes they have the right to be there, IMO is totally out of line. -
For those who WANT their Mom/MIL/sister whatever there, I thnk that is a very personal decision and an honor and privlidge for that person, it is not at ALL something anyone should EVER expect !!

I only want DH there, this is totally a moment for us. Everyone else is welcome to come in after the Baby and I are all cleaned up and comfortable.

I'm sorry, I know you said not to quote, but I literally  at this part!!! 
I completely agree with you. I am actually thankful that I'm having a c-section because then the decision is made for me. If I were having a v-birth, I would still just want it to be DH and I. I can totally see where you're coming from.

DH only! I think my mom wants to be there, but at least for the first baby, we want it to be just us. We are even this way about sonos-- my mom wants to come to our 20 week sono and we feel badly, but only want it to be us.

oh no.. i would not allow anyone else in the room but dh.
well MAYBE my mom and dad and sisters- but just to say hi, but never someone who was not blood..
just tell dh you are not comfortable!

I'm in the same boat. My MIL (who I do not have a great relationship with) thinks that she should be allowed to be in the delivery room. I do NOT!
I MAY have my Mom with DH and me but I'm not even sure about that.
I think it's totally up to you who is in the delivery room with you. In this situation it's not even DH's call. Just ask him if he'd like to invite your Dad to his next prostate exam...one that will likley last for 12 to 18 hours!

Before I delivered, while I was laboring, I had so many people in my room. But I LOVED it because it really past the time. But then when it came time for the actual delivery, we kicked everyone out and it was just me and my husband. It will be the same for this baby.

My mom was in the room - I figured since I came out of hers, she can see mine and it was very special for her to be there to witness Ryan's birth
DH was supportive of this but did say it was a little weird to think of looking at my area - with my mom. In the end it worked out b/c I was honestly in the delivery room for under 15-minutes and pushed twice - my mom got back to the room just in time for push 2 (Ryan's head was already there)
ETS: When we discussed it in advance of my labor DH said the advantage to having my mom there was having someone help him if I got crazy and was in so much pain I was cursing everyone out - the both lucked out - it didn't last long enough to yell at anyone

I'm allowed to have 2 people in addition to DH in the room. I wouldn't mind my mom in there, but DH is very opposed to this. He likes my family a lot, but he feels that my mom will stress me out, not keep me calm. He has a point. I'm fine with it just being us in the delivery room.

ditto to what you said....
We went on the tour yesterday and DH was like maybe your mom should be with you here, I am INSANELY close wtih my mom, but my mom can also get crazy...a la the mother in terms of endearment "get my daughter the drugs" crazy.....
and that just makes me crazy...plus I'm an insane b*tch when I'm not feeling well, and I hate ppl touching me or doing anythign to me when I'm in pain....so NO to my mom
Then DH proceeds to tell me that his parents have already told HIM that they will come the second I go into labor to wait, bc they live far..UM THEY LIVE 35-45 Mins away from the hospital, they are not coming cross country...I like DH's mom, but she's a nurse and will probably think she knows what to do and I don't want her sneaking in, or giving DH advice on what I should be doing in there....
YIKES!!!

In the delivery room, it will be only FH. Not only wouldn't I be comfortable with anyone else looking at my hoo ha, it is a very personal and meaningful experience between FH and I--the start of our family. I definitely want other family members to share in the joy, because it is a wonderful occasion for them as well, but they will not be in the actual delivery room. Outside of the delivery room will be my parents, FH's mom, and probably my 2 aunts. I'm sure they will all come in, see the baby, etc, very shortly after.
