Do you notice people with babies look at you?
Just a recent observation of mine, especially tonight while I was at the mall. Especially those with NEW babies. It's like they're sending a signal.........heh heh look what you are in for..........(but in a good way!).
On a related note, DH and I watched a little boy having a temper tantrum in the middle of the mall. He was lying there kicking and screaming, and at one point ran down the corridor away from his mother. My poor DH! He got the absolute look of fear and dread on his face..........
(I don't buy the argument that my kid will never behave this way........I think they ALL probably do!).

Kinda related but not really... I notice that people with babies look at other babies while they're walking in the mall. In fact, they will turn around and peek into your stroller to see what your baby looks like. I see it all the time.

I have a 10 month old and I find myself looking at pregnant women all the time. They often remind me of the nice things I liked about being pregnant and often times I think "MAN, I wish I looked that good pregnant!"

ITA with this...but I firmly believe that it's all in the way you handle it. Your reaction to that behavior is what's going to stop them in their tracks or to show them that it's ok.
My mom had what I affectionately call "the look of death". She didn't have to say a word--if you got the look of death and didn't IMMEDIATELY stop what you were doing, you knew you were in for it when you got home!
I've already started practicing--I'm a teacher, so it works equally well in the classroom.

Re: Do you notice people with babies look at you?
I look at pregnant women all of the time. (Not pregnant here).
Several reasons. Off the top of my head:
I wished my pregnancy away too quickly. I wanted it to be over & finished. I'm done having kids & I'm not getting that time back. Now I'm envious. I look at pregnant woman & hope they're not wishing their pregnancy over so quickly.
To quote Erma Bombeck: "Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every moment and realized that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in life to assist God in a miracle."
When we say you don't know what having a child is like until you have one, we're telling the truth. You can't imagine the love that you are going to feel for your own child. For me, the best part of my life has been since I had children - watching them grow, learn & love. So I look at a pregnant woman & I think "You are about to embark on the best part of your life." I"m excited for you (and them). There is no doubt we differ on opinions, how to raise your child, SAHM vs working mom, the age old breastfeeding debate, etc. But one thing we all have in common is that we fiercely love our children....and we can't wait for someone else to join our club.
You are beautiful. Even with feeling cranky, sick & bloated. You may not realize it, but you are. Even if it's your hand on your belly to feel a kick, the smile to yourself as you are checking out babies, or the waddle that we get.
